About this opportunity

As the Head of MBS Trading, you will oversee the pricing, hedging, trading, and execution of our mortgage portfolio. You will manage the pooling decision, pipeline risk management strategy and optimize profitability. This role requires a deep understanding of agency (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae) and non-agency execution, hedging instruments (TBA, Swaps, etc), and the macro-economic factors influencing interest rates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Trading & Execution: Oversee the daily execution of all MBS trading activities, including TBA trading, specified pool creation, and whole-loan sales to maximize secondary marketing gain-on-sale margins.

  • Risk Management & Hedging: Design, implement, and monitor comprehensive pipeline hedging strategies.

  • Best Execution Analysis: Continuously evaluate and optimize execution options

  • Team Guidance: Lead, mentor, and develop team of traders, analysts and secondary marketing specialists.

  • Vendor & Investor Relations: Maintain and expand strong relationships with broker-dealers, warehouse providers, and institutional investors.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, Post Closing and other teams to ensure accurate loan delivery and funding and operational fluidity

  • Market Intelligence: Monitor economic indicators, Federal Reserve policy, and regulatory changes to adjust trading strategies proactively.

Location and Schedule
  • This is a full-time, office-based position in a modern, cozy environment in our Troy, MI office.

  • Our standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, promoting a healthy work-life balance.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in bond trading, specifically focused on Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS)

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

  • Technical Proficiency: Mastery of QRM, Tradeweb, Bloomberg and GSE websites. High proficiency in SQL, Python, or R for data analysis is a strong plus.

  • Deep Subject Matter Expertise: In-depth knowledge of mortgage pipeline dynamics, fallout modeling, servicing values (MSRs), and the mechanics of the TBA market.
