Engineering Specialist
Location: Santa Rosa, CA
Pay Rate: $28.00–$40.00 per hour, DOE
Position Type: Temp-to-Hire
Schedule: Full-Time, Day Shift

Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Quality Engineer to support optical thin film manufacturing operations in Santa Rosa. This position provides technical support across Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Inspection, and Process Control, with a strong focus on product quality, process improvement, data analysis, documentation, and problem resolution.
The ideal candidate is analytical, reliable, collaborative, and comfortable working in a technical manufacturing environment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, working with manufacturing data, improving processes, and supporting high-quality products and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support across Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Inspection, and Process Control.
  • Analyze manufacturing, inspection, testing, machine, and SPC data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluate coating runs, product test results, inspection results, and process data to support quality and process decisions.
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment, process, inspection, and quality issues.
  • Support investigations involving nonconforming material, process variation, customer concerns, and product quality issues.
  • Assist with root cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up activities.
  • Support product disposition based on test results, inspection data, customer specifications, and internal requirements.
  • Review customer purchase orders, drawings, specifications, and other documentation and translate requirements into accurate manufacturing specifications.
  • Prepare and verify customer documentation, including inspection records, first article reports, serialization information, and product performance data.
  • Perform product testing, collect results, and document findings accurately.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and improvement of Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, process controls, and other technical documentation.
  • Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Planning, and R&D to improve product quality, yield, throughput, consistency, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Use Excel, MES, SPC, and other manufacturing systems to analyze data and support technical decisions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, process standardization, and root cause analysis.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable customer requirements, inspection methods, internal procedures, and industry standards.
  • Follow all company quality, environmental, sustainability, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or another STEM-related discipline; OR high school diploma/equivalent with 3+ years of relevant technical, quality, engineering, inspection, process control, or manufacturing experience.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and advanced Excel.
  • Experience working with manufacturing data, SPC, MES, inspection systems, or similar technical systems.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make sound technical recommendations.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, work instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with equipment such as spectrophotometers, laser measurement systems, Zygo interferometers, or precision measurement systems.
  • Experience developing or maintaining SOPs, Work Instructions, Job Safety/Hazard Analyses, or controlled technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Cal/OSHA, cleanroom requirements, MIL-PRF, or ANSI standards.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, root cause analysis, corrective action, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Physical & Work Environment
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with moderate temperature and noise levels.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform repetitive hand tasks.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, and work in various positions as required.
  • Ability to handle delicate optical components and precision tools using appropriate contamination-control procedures.
  • Ability to perform occasional overhead or elevated work, including ladder use.
  • Ability to work with solvents, cleaning agents, lasers, sharp instruments, and high-temperature equipment while following established safety procedures.

  • Ability to wear required PPE and cleanroom garments, including respirator, hairnet, face mask, gloves, and cleanroom suit when necessary.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull materials or equipment and occasionally lift up to 35 pounds.
