Job Title: Intern, Quantum Photonics Engineer

Job Schedule: 9/80:ย Employees work 9 out of every 14 days - totaling 80 hours worked, and have every other Friday offย 

Job Description:

Help advance quantum sensing, quantum communications, and quantum information processing through rigorous experimental work. This graduate internship combines quantum physics, photonics, precision measurement, and engineering analysis in a hands-on laboratory environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and execute experiments on quantum photonic devices, components, or system concepts.
  • Develop measurement approaches; collect and assess data quality, uncertainty, and observed behavior.
  • Apply quantum mechanics, optics, and engineering analysis to interpret results and plan follow-on experiments.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate and validate mature quantum-photonic designs at subsystem and system levels.

Qualifications:

  • To be eligible, candidate's must be pursuing a master's or doctoral degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quantum Science and Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Skills:ย 

  • Experience with AMO quantum platforms, including Rydberg-atom sensing, ultracold neutral-atom systems, or entanglement-enabled quantum systems.
  • Optical, electronic, RF, timing, or data-acquisition instrumentation experience.
  • Python, MATLAB, or comparable data-analysis experience.
  • Strong foundation in quantum mechanics, quantum optics, electromagnetics, or closely related analytical methods.
  • Experimental research, internship, laboratory, or substantial project experience in quantum optics, quantum sensing, quantum communications, quantum information processing, atomic quantum systems, photonic quantum systems, or precision measurement.
