Job description

Job Summary:

The Fiber Optic Technician Apprentice position offers a unique opportunity to learn and develop valuable skills in fiber optic technology under the guidance of experienced professionals. The Fiber Optic Technician Apprentice will assist with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber optic systems while receiving comprehensive training and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist experienced technicians with the installation of underground and aerial fiber optic networks.
  • Learn and follow industry standards and best practices for fiber optic network installations and maintenance.
  • Help prepare and organize materials, tools, and equipment needed for fiber optic projects.
  • Participate in preventative maintenance activities to ensure the reliability and performance of fiber optic systems.
  • Assist in documenting fiber optic network installations, modifications, and repairs accurately and thoroughly.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working with fiber optic equipment and installations.
  • Attending training sessions and educational workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in fiber optic technology.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interest in technology and a desire to pursue a career in fiber optics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn from experienced technicians.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team environment.

Work Environment:

  • This role is situated within an outdoor environment and regularly will be conducted in various weather conditions.
  • While executing job responsibilities, the employee will regularly engage in verbal communication. Additionally, physical demands include standing, walking, manual dexterity tasks, and reaching. 
    • Occasional physical activities may include sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The position involves frequent lifting and moving of objects weighing up to 50 pounds and working from hieghts.
    • This is a full-time position with working hours scheduled during various hours.

    While executing job responsibilities, the employee may be required to engage in occasional standing, walking, sitting, manual manipulation of objects, tools, or controls, reaching, climbing stairs, and verbal communication.
