What is an ophthalmology medical assistant?

An Ophthalmology Medical Assistant is a healthcare professional who supports ophthalmologists in providing eye care to patients. They perform a variety of clinical and administrative tasks such as taking patient histories, conducting basic eye tests, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with minor procedures. They may also handle scheduling, patient education, and the maintenance of ophthalmic equipment. Their role is essential for ensuring efficient workflow and quality patient care in an ophthalmology practice.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ophthalmology medical assistant?

To excel as an Ophthalmology Medical Assistant, you need a solid understanding of eye anatomy, basic medical assisting skills, and often a certification such as Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA).
