Job description

Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood and lumber manufacturing plants and twenty-three specialty wood product distribution operations.  
We are seeking a Tipple Operator position at our sawmill located in Waynesboro, MS. You will be responsible for operating the tipple station, preventative maintenance on the tipple machine, and monitoring controls. If you have experience in manufacturing, we would love to hear from you. 
Responsibilities: 
  • Operate tipple chain conveyor to move presorted lumber from holding racks to stacking platform. 
  • Moves control buttons to align tipple with holding racks, which holds requested lumber.  
  • Pulls levers to release stops at ends of holding racks allowing lumber to move down to tipple conveyor chain, which transfers lumber to stacking platform. 
  • Straightens lumber as it moves on conveyor to prevent jams.  
  • Troubleshoot equipment and notify maintenance personnel of any issues. 
  • Perform basic care and preventative maintenance on equipment and machinery. 
  • Monitor gauges and surroundings to ensure safe operation of equipment.  
  • Clean and maintain industrial equipment including workstations.
  • Perform other duties assigned. 
Education and Experience: 
  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • A minimum of six (6) months of work experience in an industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, carpentry, construction, or production environment. 
  • Ability to understand, clearly communicate, and follow all safety rules and policies. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team. 
  • Ability to make decisions quickly utilizing hand, eye, and foot coordination. 
  • Able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. 
Physical Requirements: 
  • Performs tasks such as walking, climbing steps/ladders, sitting, and standing for long periods.
  • Able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to work outside in all conditions, in and around loud equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. throughout the work shift.
Pay Rate: $19.34
