What this job involves
Leading all maintenance operations for the airport's baggage handling system, ensuring maximum uptime, operational efficiency, and safety compliance. This critical leadership role requires overseeing preventative maintenance programs, emergency repairs, and system upgrades while managing a team of conveyor technicians and mechanics. You'll serve as the primary liaison coordinating maintenance activities with airport operations, airlines, and stakeholders, ensuring minimal disruption to baggage handling operations. By analyzing system performance metrics, implementing strategic improvements, and responding decisively to emergencies, you'll maintain the reliability of complex automated conveyor systems that are essential to airport operations. Your technical expertise and leadership will drive continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards.
Your day-to-day tasks will include
  • Directing and coordinating all maintenance activities for the baggage handling system, including scheduling and executing preventative maintenance, managing repair operations, and overseeing system upgrades to maintain optimal performance
  • Developing and implementing comprehensive maintenance schedules and standard operating procedures that minimize system downtime, maximize operational efficiency, and extend equipment lifecycle
  • Supervising, mentoring, and developing a team of conveyor technicians and mechanics, providing leadership that fosters technical excellence, safety awareness, and professional growth
  • Monitoring system performance metrics continuously, analyzing maintenance data to identify trends and areas for improvement, and preparing comprehensive reports for senior management
  • Coordinating closely with upper management, airport operations, airlines, and other stakeholders regarding planned maintenance activities, system outages, and operational impacts to ensure seamless communication
  • Ensuring strict compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, airport security requirements, and operational protocols while maintaining comprehensive documentation
  • Responding rapidly to system emergencies, implementing contingency plans when necessary, and making quick, effective decisions during system failures to restore operations promptly
  • Managing contractor relationships and overseeing external maintenance work to ensure quality standards are met and contractual obligations are fulfilled

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent with strong technical foundation in mechanical and electrical systems
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in operations management, preferably in airport operations, material handling systems, or complex automated mechanical environments
  • Demonstrated experience managing maintenance teams and coordinating contractor activities with proven ability to lead diverse technical personnel effectively
  • Strong understanding of automated conveyor systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motors, drive systems, and control systems with hands-on troubleshooting experience
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to make quick, sound decisions during system failures and high-pressure emergency situations
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for work order management, preventative maintenance scheduling, and performance tracking

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, industrial maintenance, mechanical engineering, or related technical field
  • 7+ years of experience in baggage handling system operations, airport facilities management, or automated material handling environments
  • Project management experience with proven track record of leading system upgrades, capital improvement projects, or large-scale maintenance initiatives
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant safety regulations including OSHA standards, airport operational requirements, and industry best practices for conveyor system maintenance
  • Experience implementing reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) programs or total productive maintenance (TPM) methodologies that improve system uptime and reduce costs
  • Strong data analytics capabilities with ability to use maintenance metrics to drive continuous improvement, predict failures, and optimize maintenance strategies

Schedule: Full-time with on-call rotations; non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as required
Compensation: 95,000-110,000
Additional Requirements
  • Must be available for on-call rotations and emergency response to address system failures outside regular business hours
  • Airport security clearance (SIDA badge) will be required; must be able to pass background checks and maintain clearance
