JOB DESCRIPTION


POSITION SUMMARY

In this role, you'll manage the Transportation Department in all aspects of daily operations by supporting the training and development of transportation personnel, and monitoring performance, safety, financial cost, efficiency, equipment, and compliance of all transportation functions. Each day provides you with a different challenge as you work with the transportation personnel, GM, maintenance department and customers to ensure effective execution of transportation operational goals and growth strategy.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

  • Promote a safe working culture for all employees; work with safety and maintenance personnel to minimize risk and always increase safety for employees. 
  • Responsible for daily operations including safety, efficiency, customer focus and maintaining the integrity of the safety and environmental systems within company's operations for transportation department.  
  • Drive operational performance and improvements to meet or exceed company goals. 
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of assets. 
  • Ensure that all fleets have the tools and training to always operate safely and that all federal, state, and local laws are adhered to. 
  • Provide advice and support to the team. 
  • Be an innovator, constantly striving for safer ways to improve efficiencies, improve our team, and enhance the customer experience. 
  • Responsible for all transportation personnel onboarding and training, including scheduling the road test requirements 
  • Directing activities related to planning, dispatching, routing, and tracking of transportation assets   
  • Planning, organizing, and managing transportation department to ensure work is completed and consistent with the company's standards and policies 
  • Ensure all license, registration, insurance, and inspections are up to date and meet DOT standards 
  • Coordinate repairs and routine maintenance of transportation vehicles with internal maintenance manager. 
  • Directing investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints.  
  • Responsible for FMCSA driver file compliance 
  • Optimize fuel efficiency program   
  • Responsible for Driver's Safety Training and monthly meeting  
  • Oversee contract positions to ensure timely completion. 
  • Forecast transportation abilities to assist with the overall efficient material flow to minimize material inventory buildup 
  • Attend and participate in internal meetings and complete required training 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated progressive responsibility or growth in transportation, logistics or similar industries. 
  • Working knowledge of trucking, transportation and/or logistics. 
  • Working knowledge of FMCSA/DOT driver rules and regulations. 
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience. 
  • Excellent skills with Microsoft Office and the ability to rapidly learn different software applications including Time & Labor, Asset Management and GPS Tracking Software. 
  • Effective communication and leadership skills. 
  • Ability to use decision making skills for cost effective solutions on projects. 
  • Customer oriented, maintaining positive relations with transportation personnel. 
  • Valid driver's license, CDL preferred 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces 
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 50 pounds 
  • Ability to spend prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computerÂ
