Established in 1986, EOHSI's major objectives are to:
Advance understanding of the mechanisms by which environmental and occupational chemical exposures impact human health.
Identify and measure human environmental and occupational exposures to chemicals. Treat populations adversely affected by chemical exposures. Develop educational tools describing relative risks of chemical exposures. Contribute to public policies related to environmental and occupational chemical risks. Offer training programs for environmental health professionals.
The Institute serves as an unbiased source of expertise about environmental problems for communities, employers and governments in all areas of occupational and environmental health, toxicology and risk assessment. EOHSI members are active as advisors to international, national, state and local organizations on public health issues.

Posting Summary
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a motivated Clinic Operations Manager for the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI) - Clinical Research and Occupational Medicine Division (CROM), located in Piscataway, NJ. Under the direction of the CROM Division Director and the EOHSI Clinical Center Director, the Clinic Operations Manager oversees the daily operations of the EOHSI Clinical Center. Establishes clinic-wide operating procedures to maximize quality, efficiency and revenue, while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Working closely with the clinic core managers the Clinic Operations Manager oversees operational and administrative activities in order to improve the quality, consistency and efficiency of clinical services. The Clinic Operations Manager functions as senior leadership, handling both routine and complex operational issues and problems. The Clinic Operations Manager also supervises the clinical research unit, which provides IRB support and clinical trial management for environmental and occupational researchers.
Duties include:
Administration:
  • Ensures effective utilization of clinic employees, space, equipment and materials within budgetary requirements to maintain excellence in patient care.
  • Develops, reviews, implements, and evaluates policies and standard operating procedures to maximize efficiency and ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical services.
  • Aligns policies and daily operations with clinic goals and ensures adherence to relevant department, University, government, and other mandates.

Budget and Grant Management:
  • Participates with EOHSI finance team, in the preparation of clinic budget. Oversees the budgets of all specialty clinics within EOHSI Clinical Center.
  • Ensures appropriateness of expenditures and approves or denies expenditure requests in consultation with finance team and CROM Division Director. Oversees billing operations to ensure funds recovery for billable services.
  • Contributes to the writing of grant applications, progress reports, presentations, and manuscripts as appropriate.

General operational management:
  • Accompanies or represents Clinical Center/Division Directors at high-level meetings with University, NIOSH, government, business, and other entities.
  • Handles issues of a highly sensitive/legal/confidential nature as requested by Clinical Center and CROM Directors. Helps to solve organizational and operational problems. Monitors the contract process in TCM.
  • Communicates with officials of the University, affiliated institutions, and relevant agencies to articulate program goals, build strategic partnerships, and address programmatic issues.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant health field
  • Five years of experience in human subject research project coordination and management (Research Administration & Research Operations), including Institutional Review Board compliance.
  • Two years of experience of financial management (budgeting,purchasing invoicing, etc.) in an academic setting
  • Five years of supervisory or managerial experience (personnel management)
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication and leadership abilities.
  • Outstanding human relations skills and leadership skills to work well with all levels of clinical and research staff and professionals to accomplish goals within a timely manner, as well as the ability to function in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel Access and SAS, SPSS are preferred.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
