Job description

OnDemand Movers USA is a fast-growing, top-rated moving company serving Chicago and surrounding suburbs. We are looking for an experienced Operations Manager with a background in the moving industry AND a strong focus on sales and business development.
READ BEFORE APPLYING
This is NOT a standard operations role.
If you have NOT managed operations at a moving company AND are not comfortable with sales/business development, this position is NOT a fit.
We are specifically looking for someone who:
  • Has run moving operations (crews, dispatch, scheduling)
  • AND is comfortable generating business, building relationships, and closing opportunities
Operations Manager – Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations for 2–6 moving crews, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and service quality
  • Create schedules, assign crews, and manage all day-of-move dispatch and real-time adjustments
  • Conduct morning dispatch meetings and end-of-day performance check-ins
  • Monitor job progress, routes, timelines, and provide proactive customer updates
  • Review completed jobs for accuracy in hours, mileage, materials used, and final invoicing
  • Track and manage job profitability, on-time performance, and customer satisfaction KPIs
  • Maintain inventory of moving equipment and materials (blankets, dollies, straps, shrink wrap, tools, etc.)
  • Ensure trucks are clean, fully stocked, properly maintained, and DOT-compliant at all times
  • Enforce company policies, safety procedures, and operational standards
  • Resolve real-time issues including delays, access challenges, extra stops, equipment needs, and staffing changes
  • Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training of movers and drivers
  • Maintain fleet readiness and coordinate preventive maintenance and compliance requirements

Sales & Business Development (Growth)
  • Actively build referral relationships with:
  • Realtors
  • Property managers
  • Apartment complexes
  • Storage facilities
  • Senior living communities
  • Conduct in-person visits, networking, and outreach weekly
  • Identify and close new revenue opportunities
  • Develop partnerships that consistently generate booked moves
  • Assist in converting inbound leads into confirmed jobs
  • Work directly with ownership to increase revenue and market share
This is a relationship-driven, boots-on-the-ground sales role — not just answering phones.
Fleet, Equipment & Team
  • Ensure trucks are clean, stocked, and ready daily
  • Maintain inventory and equipment
  • Coordinate maintenance and DOT readiness
  • Lead crews, enforce standards, and maintain accountability
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and training

Leadership & Strategy
  • Work directly with ownership to improve systems, scalability, and overall company performance
  • Implement process improvements to increase efficiency, crew utilization, and profit margins
Qualifications
  • 2+ years MANAGEMENT experience at a moving company (REQUIRED)
  • Proven experience in dispatching, crew management, and job oversight
  • Must be comfortable with sales, networking, and business development
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to multitask and make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Tech-savvy; able to use CRM tools, scheduling software, GPS, and mobile apps
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL not required)
  • Ability to lift 50–75 lbs occasionally is a plus
  • Must have reliable personal transportation for daily operations and local travel
