Summary: The Operations Manager leads and oversees daily operations, ensuring the site runs efficiently, profitably, and safely. This role is responsible for supporting a robust safety culture and maintaining strict compliance with MSHA and company regulations. The manager oversees production goals, workforce management, adherence to budgets/forecasts, and environmental compliance.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Enforce company health and safety programs to meet or exceed all MSHA and other regulatory standards.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections and safety audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with all safety protocols
  • Ensure proper and timely reporting of all incidents, injuries, and health hazards to MSHA and company leadership.
  • Lead incident investigations, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Promote and enforce a proactive safety culture where every employee is accountable for safety.
  • Plan, organize, and direct daily production activities and resource allocation to optimize productivity.
  • Manage the operational budget, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and control costs.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure all mining equipment and facilities are maintained in safe, reliable, and compliant condition.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot operational problems and provide clear, actionable solutions.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor production personnel, including frontline supervisors, to build a high-performing and motivated team.
  • Assist in personnel actions such as hiring, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions in accordance with company policy.
  • Conduct comprehensive MSHA-aligned training for all miners, covering new miner orientation, annual refresher courses, and task-specific training.
  • Ensure compliance with all State and Federal Safety and Environmental regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in Engineering or similar discipline from college or university; or; 10 years progressive experience in mining or plant-related operations
  • 5 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Demonstrated experience with managing production operations and equipment.
  • Strong financial management understanding for budget management and cost control


Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to think strategically, solve problems, and make data-driven decisions


Computer Skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly with Excel


Technical Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of MSHA (Mine Safety & Health Act) and compliance standards


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises four (4) first-line supervisors who supervise approximately 57 hourly employees

This is an on-site plant role in a fast-paced, complex material handling environment. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to heavy equipment, dust, noise, and outside weather conditions.
