At Vanmark, our mission is “Feeding our growing world together.” Achieving that mission requires talented individuals who take pride in their work, value teamwork, and are committed to operational excellence.
Position Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing all aspects of manufacturing operations within a custom food processing equipment environment. This role oversees fabrication, machining, assembly, and shipping of stainless-steel equipment while ensuring the highest standards of quality, sanitation, and on-time delivery. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge and a proven ability to drive efficiently in a custom, project-based manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations across fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, and finishing of food-grade equipment
  • Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining strict quality and sanitation standards required for food industry applications

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase throughput, reduce waste, and improve product flow
  • Implement and maintain Lean Manufacturing principles in a high-mix, low-volume production environment
  • Monitor and report on KPIs including on-time delivery, labor efficiency, rework, and material utilization
  • Ensure compliance with food-grade manufacturing standards, including sanitary design and material handling practices
  • Champion workplace safety and enforce adherence to all safety policies and procedures
  • Manage workforce planning, staffing, training, and performance across multiple departments
  • Oversee inventory control, material flow, and coordination with supply chain to prevent production delays
  • Collaborate with quality assurance to maintain high standards and resolve any non-conformance issues
  • Support installation readiness, crating, and shipping processes for large, custom equipment

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in custom equipment, stainless steel fabrication, or food processing equipment
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of welding, fabrication, machining, and assembly processes
  • Experience in a high-mix, low-volume or project-based manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling tools
  • Knowledge of food industry standards (sanitary design, USDA/FDA considerations) preferred
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience strongly preferred

Key Competencies
  • Hands-on leadership and team development
  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitude
  • Process improvement and operational efficiency
  • Project coordination and cross-functional communication
  • Problem-solving in a custom manufacturing environment
  • Quality and detail orientation, especially for food-grade requirements

Work Environment
  • Combination of office and manufacturing floors (welding, machining, fabrication areas)
  • Exposure to noise, moving equipment, and industrial materials
  • Requires regular walking the floor, standing, and occasional lifting
  • May require extended hours to meet project deadlines or customer delivery commitments

Why Join Us
  • Opportunity to work in a specialized and growing segment of the food processing industry
  • Hands-on leadership role with direct impact on operations and customer satisfaction
  • Collaborative environment with engineering and production teams
  • Competitive compensation, benefits, and long-term growth potential
