Job description
The Regina Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Research Group, which is part of the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine, works collaboratively with clinician-researchers, trainees, research personnel and Saskatchewan Health Authority to advance clinical and health research in women's and reproductive health.
Primary Purpose: The Regina OBGYN Research Coordinator will provide shared clinical research, grant-development, regulatory and scholarly support to clinician-researchers within the Regina Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Nature of Work: Reporting to Provincial Obstetrics and Gynecology Senior Research Coordinator, The Regina OBGYN Research Coordinator will function as a shared resource across several clinician-led research programs. The incumbent will work with a high degree of independence and will be required to exercise judgment when managing multiple requests and competing deadlines. Research needs will fluctuate throughout the year, requiring flexibility in effort allocation.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities:
Grant Development and Funding Support
- Work with clinician-researchers and College of Medicine research-development personnel to identify relevant internal and external funding opportunities.
- Coordinate and assist with grant-submissions and long term funding strategies.
- Support the preparation of research summaries, project descriptions, knowledge-mobilization plans, investigator CVs and other application components.
- Coordinate budget information with investigators and designated financial or administrative personnel.
- Scholarly-output tracking and reporting.
- Monitor group's scholarly work and report metrics. Regulatory and operational support.
- Assist with Research Ethics Board applications, amendments, renewals, progress reports and study closures.
- Support institutional and operational approval processes, including coordination of required supporting documents.
- Assist with the coordination of clinical studies, including clinical trials, within the incumbent's training, experience and delegated responsibilities.
Scholarly and Methodological Support
- Assist with study design, protocol development and preparation of data-collection materials.
- Conduct structured literature searches and contribute to narrative, systematic or scoping reviews and other forms of evidence synthesis.
- Draft, edit and format manuscripts, conference abstracts, posters, presentations and responses to peer reviewers.
- Coordinate journal and conference submission processes.
- Contribute to research-data organization, quality assurance, statistical analysis and interpretation under appropriate investigator or methodological supervision.
- Provide research support to MSc students, postdoctoral fellows and other trainees involved in approved projects.
Travel
- Although based in Regina, travel to other distributed OBGYN sites in the province may be required.
Education: A master's degree in health sciences, biomedical or biological sciences, clinical research, epidemiology, public health, biostatistics or a closely related discipline is required. A PhD in a relevant discipline would be considered an asset.
Licenses: Successful completion of the TCPS 2: CORE is required.
Experience: Experience conducting or supporting clinical, biomedical or health-related research. Experience contributing to scientific manuscripts, research reports, grant applications, conference submissions or comparable scholarly materials. Experience coordinating research activities, documentation and multiple deadlines, organizing research information or data with a high degree of accuracy. Experience working independently and collaboratively in an academic, healthcare or interdisciplinary research environment.
Formal training in clinical trials or other regulated clinical research, experience preparing or coordinating internal or external grant applications, Research Ethics Board submissions and research methodologies would be considered an asset.
Skills: Excellent scientific writing, editing and oral communication skills, understanding of clinical research methods and responsible conduct of research. Strong organizational, project and time management. Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment and discretion. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to establish respectful and effective working relationships with clinicians, researchers, trainees and institutional partners. Proficiency with standard office and reference-management software. Experience with REDCap and statistical software such as R, SAS, SPSS, Stata or equivalent would is considered an asset.
