Job description

Operations Management Trainee

The Operations Management Trainee participates in a training program designed to develop individuals into frontline manager roles. As an Operations Manager Trainee, you will learn the responsibilities and functions performed by an Operations Manager through on-the-job training. This training program lasts 12 months and will prepare you to effectively handle the day-to-day operations at a Casella division. Successful completion of this program will result in a management position in operations at a division within Eastern Region our business footprint which includes Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learns how to perform ongoing operational analysis to maximize the utilization of company resources, operate too maximum efficiencies, and asset utilization.
  • Gains and understanding of DOT & OSHA safety programs and systems, operational business processes, systems & tools, performance, management, and maintenance processes.
  • Grasps how to drive change management initiatives to introduce and sustain new processes that contribute to the growth and durability of the operations of the business unit.
  • Collaborates with all frontline managers to learn and assist in the day-to-day business operations.
  • Becomes well versed in the processes of screening, interviewing, and conducting reference and background checks on candidates.
  • Works with local safety teams to continue to create a safety conscious culture while overseeing effective safety and accident prevention programs.
  • Completes the assigned Operations Management training program topics and all other necessary trainings.
  • Participates in periodic leadership and management opportunities throughout the program.
  • Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree or 4 years of relevant work experience, a minimum of 2 years supervisory and leadership experience and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment. A valid CDL license or the ability to obtain one and an ability to maintain a valid driver's license and a clean driving record throughout the duration of employment in the position are required. An ability and willingness to travel throughout the footprint during the program and relocate within an assigned geographic area at the conclusion of the program are expected.

Proven commitment to work and safety, strong interpersonal, leadership, organizational, and project management skills are required. Excellent problem-solving, organizational, listening, verbal, and written communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and other related platforms are essential.
