Assistant Residential Operations Manager
Job Summary:
The Assistant Residential Operations Manager will work closely with the Residential Operations Manager, Dispatcher, Service Technicians, and HVAC Installers-Residential to assist with daily operations and administration, technical questions, and training programming. This role is also responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining residential HVAC systems and assisting other team members with technical questions. This role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, coaching abilities, and attention to detail to ensure that systems operate efficiently and effectively. The technician will interact with homeowners and business owners to explain issues and solutions, ensuring customer satisfaction as well as building confidence in other team members through technical support. Minimum of 3 years of experience.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Residential Operations Manager with daily operations and administration tasks.
  • Work together with the Residential Operations Manager to build and implement efficient training programming to help build confidence in the Service Technicians and HVAC Installers-Residential.
  • Coach and train other team members with technical questions, basic walkthrough procedures in HVAC, and common culprits that technicians may face in the field.
  • Diagnose and repair residential and light commercial HVAC systems, including electrical, refrigerant, combustion, and airflow issues, in line with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance (cleanings, inspections, filter changes, tune-ups) to improve system reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Use testing equipment (manifolds, combustion analyzers, multimeters, leak detectors, airflow measurement tools) to perform acceptance tests and verify proper system operation after work is completed.
  • Accurately document service findings, work performed, parts used, and recommendations in the company's service software.
  • Communicate clearly to customers to explain issues found, present repair and replacement options, and answer questions in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Educate customers on proper system operation, basic maintenance, and potential improvements (e.g., higher efficiency equipment, indoor air quality products, smart thermostats).
  • Maintain a clean, organized job site and keep service vehicles properly stocked, inventoried, and presentable.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours emergency service requests.
  • Follow company safety procedures and all applicable codes and standards; comply with OSHA and other safety requirements while working in homes and on ladders, roofs, and confined spaces.
  • Engage in ongoing training and continuing education to stay current with technology, codes, and company processes.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED; technical school training in HVAC preferred; college degree a plus.
  • EPA 608 (Type II) certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in residential HVAC repair and installation.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, tools, and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record; ability to meet driving requirements for company vehicle.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Physical Demands and Cognitive Requirements:
  • Physically capable of performing tasks requiring lifting 50+ pounds, standing, and bending.
  • Physically capable of working on 30 foot ladders.
