Job Summary
As a Regulatory Intern, you will support the Regulatory team in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations across ConocoPhillips' operations in the Gulf Coast, Rockies, and Permian assets. This role offers hands-on exposure to permitting workflows, regulatory reporting, and cross-functional collaboration with Land, Operations, D&C, Development, Legal, and HSE teams. There will also be opportunities to interact with external federal, state, and local agencies. This internship will be a great opportunity to receive diversified training through on-the-job assignments using the technical skills you have acquired in college or through your work experiences.
The work will develop you technically and professionally. You'll have a Regulatory Coordinator mentor and a buddy to help you adjust to ConocoPhillips' corporate environment.
Assignments will typically be at our sites located in Houston, Texas or Midland, Texas with opportunities to visit field locations. The length of our internships varies from 10 to 14 weeks based on the project and your availability.
This internship has the potential to lead to future employment with ConocoPhillips based on performance throughout the summer.
Position Overview
Responsibilities may include:
  • Assisting with well permitting and post-spud compliance documentation and tracking
  • Supporting the preparation and submission of environmental surface permits
  • Helping to maintain and update regulatory metrics and dashboards for internal reporting
  • Participating in regulatory research and assisting in summarizing rule changes or agency updates
  • Collaborating with team members to prepare materials for agency engagement and internal and external audits
  • Attending team meetings and contributing to project coordination and contractor oversight efforts
  • Shadowing Regulatory Coordinators to gain insight into pipeline compliance and enforcement implementation

Basic/Required:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer and/or education institution
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Studies, Environmental Systems Science, Ecology and Conservation Biology, Geoscience, Geography and the Environment, Natural Resources Management, General Business or Management, Political Science, or foreign equivalent
  • Current level in college: Freshman through Senior
  • Expected graduation date: Fall 2027 through Spring/Fall 2030
  • A minimum of ten (10) continuous weeks availability for internship

Preferred:
  • Willing to work in either of these locations: Houston, TX or Midland, TX
  • A minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Previous internships or co-ops in an energy related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with individuals in a team setting
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously within deadline requirements
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Consistently demonstrates high integrity, behaves ethically, and follows through on commitments
  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
