ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England's ongoing transition to clean energy.
ISO New England is seeking a Operations Forecasting Supervisor to lead a highly specialized team of Forecasters and Data Scientists supporting real-time Control Room Operations. This role is critical to ensuring accurate system demand, weather, and Variable Energy Resource (VER-wind and solar) forecasts that directly inform Day-Ahead and Real-Time market operations and energy settlements across New England.
The Supervisor collaborates closely with Operations Management, Forecasters, System Planning load modelers, IT partners, and project teams to advance forecasting capabilities while maintaining strict operational accuracy and reliability standards.
Forecasting is a 365-day operation, and this leader ensures full coverage for all forecasting processes, including weekends and holidays.

How you will make an Impact
  • Evolve forecasting methodologies to address increasing system complexity, including the implementation of probabilistic forecasting techniques.
  • Lead the production of accurate, timely New England system demand forecasts in alignment with corporate, operational, and ISO-NE procedures, ensuring 100% on-time compliance.
  • Deliver hourly demand forecasts across multiple horizons: intraday, day-ahead through six days, and 21-day outlooks to support energy reliability assessments.
  • Monitor and validate demand and VER (wind and solar) forecasts; identify root causes of errors and implement corrective actions.
  • Support forecasts used for system security analysis, Day-Ahead market clearing, Real-Time Operations, and energy market settlement.
  • Identify research opportunities and guide continuous improvements in demand and VER forecasting.
  • Plan and manage forecasting initiatives and projects from concept through implementation.
  • Provide operational, event-driven, and executive reporting; deliver clear updates during normal operations and major system events.
  • Coach, train, and develop Forecasters and other stakeholders (System Operators, Energy Analysts, and market participants) to improve accuracy, shift continuity, and process outcomes.
  • Maintain and enhance forecasting procedures, documentation, and training materials.

What you need to be successful
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in power system operations and/or forecasting.
  • Proven ability to deliver accurate, timely work under strict deadlines and operational constraints.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO New England Market Rules, Operating Procedures, and related business processes highly desirable.
  • Solid understanding of power system operations principles and electric demand behavior.
  • Experience with neural network modeling and probabilistic analysis.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of specialized data scientists and forecasters.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement skills, including collaboration with Control Room Operators and Market Participants.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under tight time constraints with limited or incomplete information.
  • Demonstrated judgment and composure in high-impact operational scenarios.

The expected salary range for this position is $168,000 - $180,000 per year.
