Job description

Delivery, Receiving & Garden Center Operations Associate

Wallace’s Garden Center – Bettendorf, Iowa
Part-Time | Potential for Full-Time

Wallace’s Garden Center is looking for a dependable, hardworking team member to help with a variety of day-to-day operations throughout our garden center. This is a great position for someone who enjoys staying busy, working independently, helping customers, and tackling a variety of tasks rather than doing the same thing all day.

We currently have two part-time openings, but for the right candidate, there is potential to combine responsibilities into a full-time position.

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities will vary by day and season and may include:

  • Assist customers with loading plants, soil, mulch, pottery, furniture, and other purchases
  • Make local customer deliveries
  • Provide friendly, helpful customer service throughout the garden center
  • Unload incoming trucks and organize product
  • Receive, check in, and distribute incoming merchandise
  • Assist with general property and grounds maintenance
  • Move, organize, and stage merchandise throughout the property
  • Help keep loading, receiving, storage, and customer areas clean and organized
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts or skid steers if trained and qualified
  • Jump in where needed during our busy seasons

What We’re Looking For

This position is fairly independent, so we're looking for someone who can be given direction and then take ownership of getting the job done.

A strong candidate will be:

  • Dependable and punctual
  • A self-starter who notices what needs to be done
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Able to take direction and follow through on tasks
  • Friendly and comfortable interacting with customers
  • Willing to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Comfortable with a physically active job that includes lifting, loading, walking, and being on your feet
  • Flexible and willing to help with a wide variety of tasks

Helpful, But Not Required

  • Forklift experience
  • Skid steer or other equipment experience
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Delivery or receiving experience
  • Garden center, landscape, warehouse, farm, construction, or maintenance experience
  • Weekend availability

Experience with plants is not required. We’re more interested in finding someone dependable, motivated, and willing to learn.

Schedule

We have two part-time positions available, with the possibility of a full-time role for the right candidate. Some weekend availability is a plus, particularly during our busy spring and fall seasons.
