Position Title: Accounting Manager
Location: Ruther Glen, VA (Onsite with potential for 1 remote day after training period)
Assignment type: Permanent Hire
Compensation: $100,000 - $120,000 / Annually
Work Schedule: M-F 9-5
Benefits: This position is eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k).
Job Description:
A growing organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to support project accounting, cost accounting, and operational finance functions within a fast-paced environment. This role will play a key part in overseeing job costing activities, supporting financial reporting, and partnering closely with operational leadership to ensure accurate project and inventory accounting.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, experience with job costing methodologies, and exposure to manufacturing-related cost and inventory accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Track and monitor project-related costs including labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead allocations
  • Maintain accurate job cost reporting and analyze budget-to-actual variances
  • Partner with project managers and operational teams to review project financial performance and profitability
  • Support cost accounting and inventory accounting functions, including inventory valuation, material usage tracking, and cost reconciliations
  • Prepare and process progress billing applications and support revenue recognition activities
  • Track and reconcile billings, including over/under billing analysis
  • Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations
  • Reconcile project-related subledgers to the general ledger
  • Support certified payroll reporting and ensure compliance with applicable contract and reporting requirements
  • Review invoices, assign appropriate job and cost codes, and assist with AP/AR functions tied to projects
  • Support internal and external audits and maintain accurate supporting documentation
  • Assist with process improvements and operational accounting initiatives as the organization continues to grow

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of accounting experience within the construction industry required
  • Strong job costing experience required
  • Experience with cost accounting and inventory accounting within a manufacturing environment highly preferred
  • Understanding of inventory valuation, material tracking, and reconciliation processes preferred
  • ERP experience required; experience with Acumatica is a plus
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and adaptable mindset
