Job description

Role: Accounting Manager

Company Overview

The company we're partnered with is a modern security and technology company redefining how organizations protect their people, property, and operations. Rather than relying on traditional guards or passive alarm systems, they combine AI-powered surveillance, real-time human intervention, and advanced analytics to actively prevent incidents before they happen.

At the core of their model is a nationwide network of command centers staffed by highly trained operators who monitor client sites in real time. Using intelligent video technology, their systems detect suspicious behavior the moment it begins—then operators step in immediately with live voice-down warnings, law enforcement coordination, or escalation protocols. It’s proactive, not reactive.

The Opportunity

Our partner is looking to hire a hands-on and proactive Accounting Manager to play a foundational role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company's accounting and financial reporting. This individual will own day-to-day accounting operations with recurring revenue and lead the monthly close, driving strong accounting and finance discipline across the organization.

  • Lead and manage the monthly close calendar, ensuring deadlines are met consistently.
  • Prepare and review complex journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations for completeness and accuracy.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and any prior-period issues.

Recurring Revenue & Contract-Based Accounting

Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable Oversight

  • Oversee customer billing, cash application, AR reconciliations, and aging management.
  • Monitor collections execution and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Oversee vendor invoice processing, approvals, coding, and payment execution.
  • Review accrued liabilities and resolve routine discrepancies independently.

Sales & Use Tax Compliance (California & Multi-State)

  • Oversee sales and use tax accounting across California and other applicable states.
  • Ensure appropriate tax accruals, reconciliations, and support for timely filings.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and respond to information requests as needed.

Audit, Controls & Compliance

  • Serve as a primary accounting contact for OBS, year-end, and tax audits.
  • Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain internal controls and documentation in accordance with U.S. GAAP and applicable California regulations.

People Management & Leadership

  • Directly manage, lead, and mentor accounts receivable and accounts payable staff.
  • Set expectations for accuracy, timeliness, and ownership.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and onboarding support to team members.

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE: Experience, Qualifications, Persona

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with 3–5+ years leading an accounting team
  • BA/BS in Accounting or related field
  • Big 4 experience a plus
  • Strong operational accounting background in construction, manufacturing, distribution, security, field services, logistics, healthcare operations, or similar operational businesses
  • Proven experience with cost accounting, job costing, service operations, inventory, labor, and gross margin analysis
  • Strong NetSuite or comparable ERP experience
  • Can own efficient and accurate month-end close and financial reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes, tighten controls, and accelerate the close
  • A proactive professional who takes ownership and accountability over their responsibilities
  • A leader with high EQ and a high level of maturity
  • Knows what needs to be done and operates with a sense of urgency, focus, and discipline
  • Comfortable building structure from potentially messy situations
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment where systems and processes continue to evolve
