Business Manager - Operational Risk Capital and Scenario Analysis

As a Business Analysis Manager at Capital One, you'll use strategic and analytical skills to address major company challenges. You will collaborate with world-class professionals to develop and test strategies that impact the bottom line, all in an environment that values insight, encourages responsibility, promotes learning, and rewards innovation.

The Operational Risk Capital and Scenario Analysis team develops strategies and processes for managing operational risk capital and conducts scenario analysis workshops to manage Capital One's material operational risks. The team collaborates with first and second line risk leaders on risk measurement and management.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated analytical thinker/problem solver with strong attention to detail, a keen focus on results, and excellent communicator. This role requires the ability to synthesize complex subject matters, effectively communicate key insights to senior leadership, and build strong relationships across the organization.

Key Responsibilities and Skills:

Scenario Analysis / Operational Risk Capital:

  • Evaluate Operational Material Risks and partner with VP+ Senior Leadership to develop plausible, high-severity operational loss scenarios.

  • Ensure the defensibility of scenario results by analyzing them for consistency and soundness, using supporting data and analytics from both internal and external sources

  • Lead the development of operational risk loss deliverables for Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) by collaborating with various upstream workstreams (e.g., modeling, scenario analysis)

  • Understand and work across the various dimensions of operational risk programs and their impact on different business units

  • Effectively manage deliverables under a fast paced environment. Identify and enable continuous improvements across the team

Stakeholder Management, and Communication:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure the output is valuable and actionable

  • Drive consensus among diverse expert opinions and effectively navigate competing objectives to ensure clarity in decision-making

  • Leverage superior judgment, intuition, and strong relationships to effectively defend and gain support for key decisions

  • Demonstrate impeccable written and oral communication skills, strategic influencing ability, and negotiation prowess to drive agreement

Decision-Making and Strategic Acumen:

  • Possess a strong strategic and analytic orientation, with a proven track record of data-driven decision-making and problem-solving. This includes strong conceptual thinking complemented by a robust quantitative background, essential for engaging with analytically rigorous financial operational risk partners

  • Exhibit strong business judgment, leadership, and integrity. This role requires a tenacious decision-maker who can bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to the business

  • Maintain a clear results orientation and intense focus on achieving both short- and long-term goals, with the ability to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment.

BasicQualifications:

  • At least 3 years of professional experience performing analysis

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining one of the following with an expectation that the required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date:

    • A Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field (Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer engineering, Software engineering, Mechanical engineering, Information Systems or a related quantitative field)

    • A Master's Degree in a quantitative field (Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Information Systems or a related quantitative field) or an MBA with a quantitative concentration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Business or quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Physical Sciences, Math, Statistics, Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in analysis

  • 2+ years of experience in financial services

  • 1+ year of experience in consulting

  • 1+ year of CCAR experience

  • 1+ year experience in structuring executive-level decks and presentations

  • 1+ year experience with data analytics tools such as (Python, R, SQL) for manipulation, BI platforms (Tableau, Power BI, Qlik) and (Excel)

  • Business Analysis Certifications and or Business Data Analytics Certifications (i.e. CCBA, CBAP, and or IIBA-AAC, IIBA-CBDA)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $164,800 - $188,100 for Business Manager


New York, NY: $179,700 - $205,100 for Business Manager


Richmond, VA: $149,800 - $171,000 for Business Manager









Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
