Position Summary
The Safety & Security Manager is responsible for leading the Company's safety, regulatory compliance, risk management, and physical security programs. This position serves as the primary point of contact for workplace safety initiatives, regulatory agencies, incident investigations, risk mitigation efforts, and security-related programs. The Safety & Security Manager partners with operations leadership to develop and maintain a culture of safety, security, accountability, and continuous improvement across all Company locations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Lead the Company's safety and regulatory compliance programs, including OSHA compliance and workplace safety initiatives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Maintain required safety records, documentation, and reporting requirements.
- Monitor regulatory developments and industry best practices and recommend improvements as needed.
Incident Management & Investigation
- Lead investigations involving workplace injuries, vehicle accidents, security incidents, and near misses.
- Conduct root cause analyses and oversee corrective action implementation.
- Monitor incident trends and prepare recommendations for leadership review.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA recordkeeping and workers' compensation reporting requirements.
Training & Safety Programs
- Develop and maintain safety programs, policies, procedures, and training initiatives.
- Coordinate safety meetings, communications, and employee awareness programs.
- Oversee driver safety, qualification compliance, coaching initiatives, and transportation safety programs.
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
Risk, Security & Asset Protection
- Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, transportation, facility, and workplace risks.
- Oversee physical security programs, including alarms, cameras, access controls, keys, and other security-sensitive assets.
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, and remediation follow-up activities.
- Monitor vehicle loading, route configurations, staffing considerations, and other operational risk factors.
Fleet & Facility Oversight
- Monitor fleet maintenance programs, vehicle inspection processes, and related safety controls.
- Coordinate facility security reviews, risk assessments, and operational safety improvements.
- Review opening and closing procedure audits and recommend corrective actions as needed.
Policy & Program Development
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety, security, and risk management policies and procedures.
- Partner with operational leadership to standardize best practices across all locations.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Risk Management, or a related field preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Minimum of 46 years of experience in safety, risk management, or compliance, preferably in a safety-sensitive or operational environment (e.g., transportation, logistics, security, or similar industry)
- Experience managing multi-site or multi-state operations strongly preferred
Certifications (Preferred)
- OSHA 30-hour certification (required or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)
- Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, or similar preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable state-specific safety requirements (e.g., WA L&I, Cal/OSHA)
- Experience leading safety audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions
- Proven ability to conduct incident investigations and perform root cause analysis
- Strong understanding of workplace safety programs, including Accident Prevention Plans (APP)
- Ability to interpret and apply regulations in a practical, operational setting
