Job description

Job Summary
Administer and implement Medical Affairs programs consistent with the department's mission and goals. Will translate objectives into operational activity and systems to assist the Vice President for Medical Affairs, Medical Staff and CAMC in accomplishing goals and maintaining accrediting body rules, as well as compliance with state and federal regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Accountable for procedure development and coordination of Medical Affairs programs and customer services in support of the Vice President for Medical Affairs.
  • Provide expertise and consultative services to partner hospitals and other CAMC affiliates.
  • Serve as a pro-active facilitator with the Vice President of Medical Affairs and coach for Medical Staff Officers, Vice Chief and Clinical Directors for coordination of activities and communication with and between the fourteen (14) medical staff quality committees and six (6) medical staff functional committees, acting as a catalyst for appropriate linkage between Medical Affairs programs, relevant quality initiatives, hospital and medical leadership.
  • Oversee Administration of credentialing process for Medical Staff and assure progressive program improvement, efficiency and effectiveness and compliance with medical, legal, and accrediting body standards to assure competent physician staff and customer service excellence.
  • Administrative resource management of physician-specific medical staff investigation process and relevant documentation (Article 2 and 3) under the direction of the Vice President for Medical Affairs.
  • Administer resources to monitor, document, and assure compliance with conditions placed on medical staff privileges and provisional review and proctoring ensuring linkages to quality and reappointment process.
  • Assure scheduling and execution of new physician and Medical Staff Leadership orientation programs.
  • Ensure an operational link, communication, and coordination between Medical Affairs and all other CAMC departments, working closely with Care Management Institute, Resource Center, and Medical Records and assure effective and efficient use of available resources and expertise to accomplish process and outcome improvement.
  • Assure the ongoing development and annual review and revision of written policies and procedures for all functions of department.
  • Manage and make hiring decisions on departmental staff in coordination with Human Resources and Vice President for Medical Affairs. Assure orientation, competency and continued professional and personal development of all levels of personnel and maintaining a mutually supportive, collegial, and professional work environment.
  • Responsible for integrating Continuous Performance Improvement into department's operations, and demonstrates a commitment to the process. Streamline departmental functions and processes.
  • Assure management and maintenance of confidentiality for credentialing and peer review information as appropriate. Develop and maintain related policies and procedures and process monitoring plan.
  • Support the Vice President for Medical Affairs in implementing improvements in Medical Staff organizational functions and accountabilities.
  • Enhance integration of the Medical Staff into hospital-wide efforts and programs by providing expertise, leadership and coaching. Accountable for continuous development and coordination of Medical Affairs programs and services which provide support for such activities as medical staff development, physician specific performance improvement and accrediting body accreditation.
  • Research relevant literature and published professional standards and practice guidelines, as needed for Vice President for Medical Affairs.
  • Prepare required summaries and reports to Medical Staff, Administration, and Board of Trustees.
  • Assure annual goal development, evaluation and reporting of the effectiveness of department programs, maintaining and providing overview and summary documents and year-to-year comparisons of initiatives undertaken and results. Prepare quarterly goal reports.
  • Provide innovative strategies for support of medical staff committees and linkage to hospital wide performance improvement program.
  • Coordinate with the Office of General Counsel and Risk Manager in areas related to governing documents, credentials and clinical risk issues and assure integration of information with quality programs.
  • Assist Vice president for Medical Affairs with special projects and act as Vice Presidents' designee as requested.
  • Monitor, assure, and educate for compliance with Governing Documents. Accountable for assuring revisions, updates, and distribution at required intervals.
  • Participate in development and maintenance of a shared medical staff performance data with CMI & IC and process of information feedback which supports practice improvement and the reappointment process.
  • Assure efficient mechanism for integration with departmental agenda planning for medical staff departments and functional committees to assure communication flows from medical Staff Executive Committee to departments.
  • Prepare and administer departmental budgets. Responsible for departmental supply and equipment management.
  • Maintain compliance with externally mandated requirements, medicare Conditions of Participation for Hospitals, accrediting body standards, and state and federal regulations.
  • Responsible for management of physician contracts and consulting agreements, administered through Medical Affairs. Assure compliance of related Physician compensation and time documentation with CAMC policy and federal regulation and renewal time frames.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
