Description

The Athletic Operations Intern is responsible for the successful development and operation of several departments at Nook Sports. The sports of emphasis for this internship include Basketball, Lacrosse, Adult Recreation, Futsal, and Volleyball.

This internship will begin by September and run through the fall. with the possibility of extending beyond based on availability and performance.


NOTE: Because this position will involve routine interaction with children, all candidates must successfully obtain the following clearances PRIOR to beginning employment:

  1. PA State Police criminal history record,
  2. PA Child Abuse Clearance, and
  3. FBI Fingerprint-based criminal history clearance.

We recommend obtaining these as soon as possible to ensure your employment can begin promptly, as results may take up to 4 weeks to arrive. You must possess the "Employment" versions of each clearance and not the "Volunteer" versions.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist the Nook Sports Directors with day to day operations
  • Communicate with local, regional, and national club teams in a variety of sports via phone and email to inform them of upcoming Nook tournaments
  • Develop a local, regional, and national network of sports industry contacts to market events to
  • Learn software programs such as Max and Tourney Machine to accept payment for tournament and league registrations
  • Assist in running tournaments, leagues and events as the point of contact for coaches and officials
  • Send communication to coaches, players, and officials for upcoming events
  • Attend marketing events locally to raise awareness for Spooky Nook Sports
  • Setup and teardown of fields/courts for league and tournament play
  • All other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • PA Child Abuse Clearance and FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Clearance: Must be dated within the past 5 years and specifically for employment (not volunteer).
  • NOTE: If you do not have already these clearances, you will be provided with instructions when an offer of employment is made. Results can take up to 4-6 weeks. Both clearances must be presented before employment can begin.
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Must be current Senior or Junior at accredited institution in the field of Business, Sports Management, Communications, or related field
  • Ability to work up to 30 hours per week
  • Previous experience working in hospitality, guest service, or sports management preferred
  • Dependable transportation to and from work
  • Language skills: Fluent knowledge of the English language; including the ability to read and interpret written information and speak and understand verbal communication
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as needed
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Highly dependable with a history of consistent attendance and punctuality

Working Conditions

  • Work environment: Upbeat, high-energy sports and event complex with heavy foot traffic and frequent large crowds. The team member is occasionally required to work outside where he or she will be subject to environmental conditions.
  • Physical requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the team member will be regularly required to perform physical activity that includes moving about the work area, standing, sitting, bending, reaching with hands and arms, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, and hearing. The team member will be frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. He or she is required to have the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Lifting requirements: The team member will be required to lift, push, pull, lower and/or move up to 10 lbs regularly, and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Noise Level: The noise level in this environment is typically variable.
  • Work schedule: The work schedule may fluctuate to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
