Bring your customs and trade compliance expertise to a role where your leadership truly matters. As Director, Customs Compliance, you will lead strategic compliance initiatives, mentor a high-performing team, and help shape the future of a growing import organization. This role is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of Dollar Tree's Customs and Trade Compliance programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and business continuity across our global import operations.
You will serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, government agencies, and external partners while driving continuous improvement, compliance innovation, and team development in a fast-paced retail environment.
What You'll Do
Strategic Leadership & Customs Compliance
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for all Customs and Trade Compliance activities supporting U.S., Canada, and Mexico import and export operations.
  • Lead and maintain a best-in-class Customs and Trade Compliance program, ensuring accurate classification, valuation, country of origin determination, and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee all post-entry activities, including audits, disclosures, protests, government correspondence, reconciliations, and regulatory reporting.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Customs Centers of Excellence and Expertise (CEE), government agencies, trade associations, and industry partners.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on customs, trade compliance, and emerging regulatory developments.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
  • Oversee and continuously enhance global sanctions and restricted-party screening programs, including OFAC, denied party screening, UFLPA, WRO compliance, and other trade restriction requirements.
  • Serve as the escalation point and subject matter expert for high-risk compliance matters involving FDA, OFAC, forced labor regulations, supply chain security, and evolving trade regulations.
  • Lead compliance risk assessments, internal audits, monitoring programs, corrective action plans, and remediation efforts.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and controls remain aligned with regulatory requirements and business objectives.
CTPAT & Supply Chain Security
  • Own and lead Dollar Tree's Tier III CTPAT program.
  • Manage annual certifications, portal submissions, validations, factory audits, distribution center assessments, and engagement with U.S. Customs.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen supply chain security and maintain CTPAT program excellence.
Operational Excellence & Technology
  • Provide oversight and governance of customs brokerage systems, compliance platforms, and trade-related technology solutions.
  • Partner with Information Technology, Customs Brokers, and third-party providers to enhance compliance systems and data integrity.
  • Drive automation, process improvements, operational efficiencies, and KPI development across the compliance organization.
  • Leverage data and analytics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and risk mitigation.
People Leadership & Financial Management
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Customs and Trade Compliance team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
  • Manage departmental budgets, forecasting, accruals, vendor relationships, and invoice approvals.
  • Develop and deliver compliance training and awareness programs across the organization.
  • Ensure effective succession planning and talent development within the function.

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • Active U.S. Customs Broker License (Required)
  • Bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 10+ years of progressive Customs and Trade Compliance experience
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience, including leading managers and cross-functional teams
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. import regulations, HTS classification, customs valuation, country of origin requirements, and trade compliance regulations
  • Strong expertise in CTPAT, forced labor regulations, UFLPA, OFAC compliance, sanctions programs, and supply chain security initiatives
  • Experience leading audits, disclosures, regulatory investigations, and government agency interactions
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Retail, consumer products, or high-volume import environment experience
  • Experience supporting U.S., Canada, and Mexico trade compliance operations
  • Experience implementing compliance technologies, automation solutions, and process improvements
  • Advanced knowledge of global trade regulations and customs compliance frameworks

Start Rate = $158,000-$183,000 based on experience plus 25% bonus and equity.
