Job description

Railcar Mechanic
Road & Rail Services
Job Type: Full-Time | On-Site
Put Your Mechanical & Welding Skills to Work
Road & Rail Services is hiring a dependable, safety-focused Railcar Mechanic to inspect, maintain, and repair railroad equipment.
This is a hands-on skilled trades position for someone who enjoys working with tools, troubleshooting mechanical problems, welding, and completing repairs in an outdoor industrial environment.
We're especially interested in candidates with experience in stick welding, metal fabrication, cutting torches, mechanical repair, industrial maintenance, heavy equipment, automotive or diesel repair, or similar skilled trades.
Previous railcar repair experience is preferred, but it is not required. If you have a strong mechanical background and are comfortable working with welding and fabrication equipment, we encourage you to apply.
What You'll Do
As a Railcar Mechanic, you will:
Inspect railcars for damage, wear, defects, and mechanical issues
Complete mechanical repairs on railcars and related components
Perform stick welding, cutting, grinding, and metal fabrication
Use cutting torches to remove or prepare metal components
Remove and replace damaged or worn railcar parts
Troubleshoot mechanical problems and determine necessary repairs
Use grinders, pipe wrenches, pry bars, ratchets, sockets, and other hand and power tools
Inspect completed work to ensure repairs meet required standards
Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas
Complete required inspection and repair documentation
Follow company, customer, and applicable industry safety requirements
What We're Looking For
Candidates should have a strong mechanical aptitude and experience in one or more of the following areas:
Stick welding
Metal fabrication
Cutting torch operation
Mechanical or industrial repair
Heavy equipment maintenance
Diesel or automotive repair
Manufacturing maintenance
Railroad or railcar repair
You should also be dependable, safety-conscious, comfortable working independently, and able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Physical & Work Requirements
This is a physically active position performed primarily outdoors. Employees must be able to:
Frequently bend, squat, kneel, twist, reach, stand, and walk
Work safely around railroad and industrial equipment
Open railcar end doors requiring approximately 90 pounds of pulling force and 68 pounds of pushing force
Climb ladders and work at heights exceeding 16 feet
Work on uneven surfaces
Work outdoors in hot, cold, rain, wind, dust, and other weather conditions
Safely wear all required personal protective equipment
A valid driver's license may be required when operating company vehicles or equipment.
