Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Theater Equipment Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and support 4DX and SCREENX theater system equipment, and also a wide range of theater projection, automation, and presentation equipment. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while providing exceptional customer service to theater operators and exhibitors.


Key Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, and commission cinema and theater equipment, including:

  • Digital cinema projectors
  • 4DX & SCREENX equipment
  • Media servers
  • Audio processors and amplifiers
  • Automation and control systems
  • Screens, masking systems, and related equipment

• Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections to ensure optimal equipment performance.

• Diagnose and repair hardware, electrical, mechanical, and software issues.

• Respond to emergency service calls and minimize equipment downtime.

• Calibrate projection systems to industry standards.

• Install and terminate low-voltage cabling, including network, audio, control, and power connections.

• Report to and communicate with HQ technical teams in Korea to resolve uncommon issues.

• Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and inventory documentation.

• Coordinate with customers, contractors, and internal teams during installations and upgrades.

• Train theater personnel on proper operation and basic troubleshooting procedures.

• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, electrical codes, and company procedures.

• Maintain company tools, test equipment, and service vehicle.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience servicing commercial theater or cinema equipment

• Strong knowledge of digital cinema projection systems and audio systems.

• Experience troubleshooting electrical, electronic, mechanical, and networking issues.

• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.

• Proficiency using diagnostic and test equipment, including multimeters and network testing tools.

• Familiarity with Windows-based systems, networking fundamentals (TCP/IP), and remote diagnostics.

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

• Ability to prioritize multiple service calls and work independently.

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work from ladders or lifts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with DCI-compliant digital cinema systems.

• Experience with Christie, Barco, NEC/Sharp, Dolby, GDC, QSC, JBL, or similar cinema technologies.

• Knowledge of laser projection systems.

• Basic networking certifications (CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, etc.).

• Electrical or electronics certification, military technical training, or equivalent vocational education.

• OSHA safety training or equivalent.

Working Conditions

Frequent travel to customer locations.

Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work to support theater operations.

Ability to work in projection booths, equipment rooms, ceilings, and confined spaces.

Standing, climbing, lifting, bending, and carrying equipment throughout the workday.

Preferred Experience

Experience servicing equipment in commercial movie theaters, entertainment venues, performing arts centers, or large-format presentation environments is highly desirable. Candidates with a background in field service engineering, audiovisual systems, electronics repair, or cinema technology are encouraged to apply.

Compensation ranges from $73,000 to $90,000. We adhere to all applicable local laws regarding salary transparency and disclose ranges where legally required. The final offer will depend on a variety of factors including market conditions, candidate experience, internal equity, and other relevant considerations.
