Job Summary:The Operating Room Registered Nurseprovides specialized care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assess patients, administer preoperative medications, prepare the operating room with sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies, and ensure infection control compliance. The Operating Room nurse will assist surgeons and surgical teams by passing instruments, maintaining sterile field, monitoring vital signs, and responding to intraoperative changes. In addition, will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and procedural efficiency.
Required Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS/ALS)
  • License:
    • Current unrestricted LPN/LVN license in one of the 50 US States and/or territories
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of two years of nursing experience, including:
      One year in the Operating Room (OR) within the last three years.
    • Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Skilled in setting up the operating room for a variety of surgical cases.
  • Must understand and adhere to Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN)
  • guidelines to maintain surgical integrity.
  • Possess basic knowledge of operating a wide variety of medical and non-medical equipment in the OR to ensure patient and staff safety, proper equipment maintenance, and accessibility.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control policies, process improvement initiatives, and regulatory agency standards.
  • Implement nursing interventions to prevent complications and reduce hospitalization needs.
  • Ensure proper documentation of procedures in the Electronic Health Care Record (EHCR).
  • Execute all physician orders as written and communicate accurate, timely patient information to the responsible physician.
  • Must be organized, able to multitask, and think on their feet in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to function independently with minimal oversight in various surgical services,
    while under appropriate supervision.
  • Ensure a safe working environment and enforce employee safe work habits.
  • Provide care within ethical and legal boundaries.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with established
    policies, procedures, and medical treatment facility guidelines.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Work Environment and Schedule: Routine schedule is 40 hours per week with flexibility in start time normally consisting of 0630-1530 hours Monday - Friday with 15-minute morning break and 45-minute lunch. Occasional late shifts will be scheduled on a rotating basis. Routinely scheduled 48 hours per month per FTE. On-call obligations will include off duty and weekend/holiday requirements on a rotating basis not to exceed contracted on call/overtime.
Operating Room will be required to report in person to the MTF during on-call hours if needed.
Hours will range from any time outside the routine schedule of 0630-1530.
