Job description

About Bloom Equity Partners

Bloom Equity Partners is a leading technology-focused private equity firm headquartered in NYC, deploying capital out of Bloom Equity Partners Fund I. We specialize in control investments in lower-middle market enterprise software and technology-enabled B2B services companies. Our core mission is to rapidly unlock transformational growth, elevating already-great businesses into undisputed market leaders.

Led by a team of experienced investors and industry operators, Bloom Equity provides the essential capital, operational resources, and playbooks needed to generate superior risk-adjusted returns for our investment partners and management teams. We are an analytically minded, curious, and fast-moving firm committed to an inclusive working environment where diverse backgrounds and perspectives drive better results.

The Role: Operating Partner, Finance

The Operating Partner, Finance is a key leader responsible for the successful transformation and value creation within assigned portfolio companies. You will serve as the crucial link between the Bloom Equity team and senior management at our portfolio businesses, bringing best-in-class advisory and operating support to drive critical growth, acquisitions, and operational performance goals. And while all Bloom Operating Partners are expected to have a broad functional skillset, the Operating Partner, Finance must have a particular spike in the finance function with strong FP&A, accounting and merger integration skills and familiarity with all finance sub-functions. Prior experience as an operating CFO or finance executive is strongly preferred.

This highly demanding and rewarding role requires a hands-on operator who can seamlessly transition between strategic planning and execution. The Partner will divide their time primarily between deeply engaging with portfolio companies and supporting the due diligence/evaluation of new investments.

Key Responsibilities

As an Operating Partner, you must be able to:

  • Drive Transformation: Serve as the chief architect for value creation, implementing operating processes, playbooks, and strategic plans within portfolio companies.

  • Provide Active Leadership: Provide hands-on assistance, coaching, and direct advisory support to portfolio company Boards and management teams.

  • Serve as Interim Management: Step into temporary management positions within portfolio companies as needed until permanent executive hires are secured.

  • Monitor Performance Management: Establish and monitor all operational KPIs, including sales & marketing targets, gross margins, and controllable expenses, ensuring alignment with shareholder value creation.

  • Drive Strategic Planning: Collaborate with CEOs and the Bloom team to develop and refine ongoing strategic and operating plans.

  • Represent the Firm: Represent Bloom Equity on portfolio management activities and interface with outside strategic, operational, and legal resources.

  • Perform Investment Due Diligence: Collaborate with investment teams to evaluate the management, processes, and cost structure of prospective investments, significantly enhancing the quality of pre-transaction information.

  • Deliver Operational Excellence: Develop standardized diagnostic templates and analytical approaches for use across the partnership and portfolio.

What Makes You a Great Fit

You are a proven, results-oriented executive with a strong track record of value creation in the technology sector:

  • Executive Experience: Established record of successfully building shareholder value as a former C-suite Executive and/or Operating Partner in businesses of scale. At least 15 years of work experience.

  • Financial Expertise: Deep experience and understanding of finance operations, including familiarity with typical finance processes and systems.

  • Sector Depth: At least 10 years in a relevant operating role within a mid-size to global, complex Enterprise Software or Technology-Enabled Services business or private equity operating group.

  • Collaborative Mindset: Proven experience operating in an agile, team-oriented environment; unlike some PE firms the Bloom operating group engages as a team, not as individuals.

  • PE Acumen: Significant experience working under private equity ownership is required; prior experience serving on Boards of Directors is preferred.

  • Operational Expertise: Deep knowledge of key enterprise software metrics and the ability to drive accountability at all organizational levels. Proven success advising or operating in businesses that have undergone significant operational changes, cost controls, and value maximization efforts.

  • Change Management: Not afraid of making challenging decisions involving organizational and strategic changes with strong ability to handle highly complex and high-pressure situations.

  • Strategic Balance: Proven ability to balance near-term tactical needs with long-term strategic requirements, translating private equity investment conviction into operational reality.

  • Execution Focus: Demonstrated wins in building and managing organizations characterized by operational excellence, budget efficacy, and seamless delivery against all operating KPIs for both top- and bottom-line growth.

  • Leadership: A strong, passionate leader and brand ambassador, energized by a rapid pace of change and committed to building high-performance, collaborative teams.

  • Strong Work Ethic: Able to be on standby whenever required with strong ability to handle high pressure situations and quick turnaround times.

  • Education: Top-tier education, relevant advanced degree (MBA, JD, or equivalent) a plus.
