What is an operating partner?

Operating Partners are experienced professionals, often in private equity or venture capital firms, who work closely with portfolio companies to enhance their operations and drive growth. Unlike traditional investors, they focus on adding value through strategic planning, process improvement, and leadership support rather than just providing capital. Their role typically involves hands-on management, mentoring executives, and implementing best practices to help businesses achieve their goals.

How does an operating partner typically collaborate with portfolio company leadership teams?

Operating Partners work closely with the executive teams of portfolio companies, often acting as strategic advisors and hands-on mentors. They facilitate improvement in operations, set measurable goals, and help identify areas for growth or efficiency. Regular collaboration includes participating in leadership meetings, guiding key initiatives, and leveraging their network to provide resources or expertise. This partnership is highly collaborative and focused on driving value creation across the portfolio.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an operating partner, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Operating Partner, you need a strong background in business management, strategic planning, and operational improvement, often supported by an MBA or equivalent experience. Familiarity with financial modeling tools, ERP systems, and performance analytics platforms is typically required. Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help build trust and drive change across portfolio companies. These capabilities are vital for delivering value creation, optimizing operations, and achieving growth targets in private equity or investment environments.

What is the difference between Operating Partner vs Investment Associate?

How do you become an operating partner?

To become an operating partner, individuals typically need extensive experience in management, operations, or industry-specific roles, often with a background in finance or consulting. Developing leadership skills, building a strong professional network, and demonstrating success in improving company performance are key steps. Some roles may require advanced degrees or certifications, such as an MBA.

About the Opportunity

Bodenvy is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial Operating Partner to lead and grow our newly built-out, high‑end med spa location in Summit, New Jersey. This is a rare opportunity for a proven sales leader and operator who knows how to lead a team, hit revenue goals, manage KPIs, and run a P&L. Background can be retail, fitness, wellness, aesthetics, med spa, or another high‑volume sales environment. Med spa or aesthetics experience is a plus, not a requirement.

The Summit location is highly attractive, professionally designed, and already built out. We are looking for the right partner to bring leadership, local market energy, team accountability, sales discipline, and day‑to‑day operational excellence.

What You Will Do
  • Lead, manage, and motivate the Summit spa team
  • Drive revenue, consultations, client conversion, retention, and recurring business
  • Own KPIs, scheduling, close rates, conversion, retention, and P&L performance
  • Create a premium client experience from first contact through treatment follow‑up
  • Oversee front desk, provider, consultation, and client service workflows
  • Support local marketing, community outreach, events, and referral partnerships
  • Monitor schedules, payroll efficiency, consultations, client outcomes, and revenue goals
  • Maintain Bodenvy brand standards, culture, accountability, and service expectations
  • Act like an owner, not just a manager
Ideal Candidate
  • A proven sales leader who has managed a team and consistently hit revenue goals
  • Background can be retail, fitness, wellness, aesthetics, med spa, or any high‑volume sales environment
  • Strong closer with the ability to sell, coach others to sell, and hold a team accountable
  • Comfortable owning KPIs, scheduling, conversion, client retention, revenue targets, and P&L performance
  • Entrepreneurial, hands‑on, high‑accountability mindset
  • High emotional intelligence, strong client service instincts, and a polished professional presence
  • Med spa or aesthetics experience is a plus, not a requirement
  • A genuine passion for aesthetics, wellness, client transformation, and premium service
Requirements
  • Proven track record leading sales and managing a team to hit targets
  • Strong closing ability and sales coaching skills
  • Comfortable owning KPIs, scheduling, conversion, retention, and P&L performance
  • Access to a minimum of $100,000 in available capital; if you do not have access to at least $100,000, please do not apply
  • Able to operate in or near Summit, NJ; candidates must live within approximately 45 minutes of the spa or self‑fund relocation
  • Willing to contribute significant sweat equity by actively operating and growing the business
Investment Requirement

Candidates must have access to a minimum of $100,000 for their equity investment. If you do not have access to at least $100,000, please do not apply. The $100,000 minimum investment is modest relative to the full cost of building out and launching a premium med spa location. The larger contribution from the Operating Partner will be sweat equity: actively operating the spa, building the team, driving revenue, and growing the business. Specific investment, ownership, compensation, and upside details will be discussed confidentially with qualified candidates.

Location Requirement

Candidates must currently live within approximately 45 minutes of Summit, NJ, or be willing to relocate at their own expense. Relocation costs will not be funded by Bodenvy.

Unique Opportunity

Opening a high‑end med spa can require a seven‑figure investment, significant build‑out costs, equipment, hiring, branding, systems, and operational infrastructure. This opportunity allows the right candidate to step into a newly built‑out, attractive Bodenvy location with the ability to operate, grow, and share in the upside of the business through a partnership structure. For someone with the right sales leadership, work ethic, operational discipline, and entrepreneurial drive, this is a chance to move from manager or sales leader to true business operator and equity partner. Bodenvy is looking for a hands‑on leader who is ready to build something meaningful, take ownership, and grow with the brand.
