Job description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: As an Engineering Equipment Operator, one will be responsible for construction and maintenance equipment operation including operating a variety of heavy equipment to create, maintain, and repair a variety of improved and unimproved surfaces.Qualifications:Who May Apply: US Citizens
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.
Note: If selected at WG-08, the incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within 24 months from the date of hire.
Note: If selected at WG-10, the incumbent must currently possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License. (Note: A copy of your valid Class A CDL must be submitted with this application.)

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-08: Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. I can operate bulldozers, end loaders, forklifts, scrapers, dump trucks, and tractor trailers. I have operated weed eaters, push and riding type lawn mower. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-10: Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. I can operate bulldozers, end loaders, forklifts, scrapers, dump trucks, tractor trailers, diesel powered motor grader and perform maintenance on roads such as erosion repair. I have operated weed eaters, push and riding type lawn mower. I have assisted in carpentry repairs, painting a variety of surfaces, making plumbing repairs, and performing masonry work. I work supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is used to perform work; requires constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate equipment and frequently adjust attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Work is frequently performed in awkward or strained positions due to the location of the controls, attachments, and size of equipment. Semi-skilled trades and crafts work requires considerable standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and working on ladders and scaffolds. Work intermittently requires incumbent to work in stretched, cramped, and awkward positions. Arm movement is considerable when using hand tools and power tools.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed in all types of weather, often in an open driver's seat or platform, on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning. He is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. Trades and crafts and heavy labor work is performed mostly outside in recreation areas with some work performed in a shop area or inside comfort stations.
