Job Summary

The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently moving freight throughout a fast-paced cross-dock terminal environment. This role loads and unloads inbound and outbound trailers, transports freight using material handling equipment, and utilizes proper stacking, blocking, and bracing techniques to maximize trailer capacity. The Forklift Operator ensures shipment accuracy, maintains a clean and organized work environment, and adheres to all safety, quality, and operational standards.
Job Responsibilities
  • Load and unload inbound and outbound freight trailers in a fast-paced cross-dock environment.
  • Transport freight using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Utilize proper stacking, blocking, bracing, and load securement techniques to maximize trailer utilization.
  • Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage.
  • Perform accurate scans, counts, and documentation of freight and shipments.
  • Install and remove load bars and freight tables as required.
  • Mount and dismount forklifts throughout the shift while following safe lifting techniques.
  • Maintain trailers and dock areas by keeping workspaces clean, organized, and free of debris.
  • Inspect forklifts and equipment daily and perform minor maintenance as needed.
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining dock security and ensuring compliance with operational standards.
  • Follow all company safety policies and comply with OSHA and DOT regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent forklift operating experience required.
  • Forklift certification required.
  • Experience operating sit-down and stand-up forklifts preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing 60 pounds or more.
  • Ability to push and pull carts, pallet jacks, and other equipment loaded with materials.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, reach, and work at various heights and angles.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work safely in elevated areas, including mezzanines.
  • Proficiency in operating warehouse equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and order pickers.
  • Strong manual dexterity and ability to perform tasks requiring precision and accuracy.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Physical stamina to work in a fast-paced environment and support overtime, weekend, and peak-period schedules as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a warehouse environment.
