Job description

Job Title: Music Specialist - Rock Band and Ensemble Coach

Department: Bach To Rock (“B2R”)

Reports to: B2R School Director

Position Purpose:

To work part time providing music and performance instruction to student bands and ensembles. To coach band members on collaboration, listening, and working together as a successful band that performs and records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following but the individual will also be expected to perform all the duties necessary which are customarily performed by a person holding this position. Other duties may be assigned.

Music Specialist

  • Provide instruction to music students in a group lesson format using a proprietary curriculum based on method books and specific methodology and arrangements created for Bach to Rock Music Schools.

  • Document completed activities and repertoire progress during each band session.

  • Instruct students in techniques needed to play in small groups.

  • Direct small groups in playing, performing and recording original and cover songs.

  • Create an encouraging, supportive, fun, and focused, rehearsal atmosphere.

  • Adapt to students interested in a wide variety of diverse styles (eg: hip hop, pop, rock, house, oldies etc.)

  • Support private student placement in pop/rock ensembles in collaboration with the School Director staff.

  • Move, set up and break down equipment at the school and school events

  • Assist B2R management with customer service and prospect phone calls when needed

  • Perform a variety of the school maintenance functions (hang posters and frames on walls, install static clings on windows, etc.) when needed

  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment and materials

  • Assist in basic repair of minor site equipment and instruments

  • Must demonstrate an understanding of music concepts and be able to communicate those concepts to students

  • Must play a musical instrument. Multi-instrumentalists are strongly preferred.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to run sound equipment
