• Support the development of investment themes/strategies.
• Lead relevant landscaping/benchmarking exercises to identify and develop new investment opportunities in line with SEDF’s investment strategies.
• Support the management of investment processes, including:
• Ensuring all deals, and deal details, at every stage of investment process, are properly catalogued in SEDF’s database and other management systems.
• Drafting investment recommendations, from pre-concept notes to concept notes to final investment memos
• Contribute to due diligence, including:
• Supporting Investment Principals and the Managing Director in developing and executing diligence workplans
• Developing financial models and financial analysis
• Undertaking risk analysis
• Contributing to impact and ESG analysis
• Contribute to forging strategic partnerships for SEDF at portfolio and individual deal level — both within Open Society Foundations and externally with key stakeholders (impact investors, MDBs/DFIs, expert consultants, etc.).
• Support asset management, including overseeing creative ways to add value to SEDF investees.
• Contribute to the refinement/improvement of SEDF’s investment processes and systems, as needed, including memos and documentation, reporting, database management, etc.

• Support a variety of projects and initiatives related to SEDF’s impact investment strategy and execution.
• Drive special projects that advance the SEDF’s investment, program or policy priorities with guidance from the CEO, Director of Policy and Innovative Finance and/or Director of Impact and Operations.
• Support, as needed, strategy development and implementation, operations, investment processes — including deal diligence, execution, internal and external communication, impact measurement and management, policy work, communications, partner and stakeholder management.
• Special projects might include helping SEDF to: develop sectoral or geographic strategies; research investable opportunities in target sectors/fields; contribute to improving SEDF internal processes/templates/operating procedures; generate content for SEDF’s communications activities; help to organize and present SEDF’s impact data and other tasks to be assigned as needed by SEDF.

• Support to prepare materials for and meetings with OSF leadership, SEDF Advisory Board, External Advisors to Investment Committee, and other key OSF and SEDF stakeholders
• Coordinate agendas and materials for leadership meetings, team retreats; collect and synthesize information from across SEDF for various team, Board and OSF communications and updates

• Knowledge of, or experience in, investment or business operations
• Experience in financial analysis
• Strong communication, research, and presentation skills – particularly related to conveying complex information about business, market trends and dynamics, and the intersection between policy and the private sector
• Sophisticated understanding of a broad set of public policy issues, particularly as they pertain to the private sector and public private partnerships
• Understanding of, and passion for, economic development, particularly at the intersection of investment, economic development, and policy – and the mission and vision of the Open Society Foundations
• Results and Impact-orientation: ability to maintain focus on achieving meaningful and measurable impact and results and to prioritize effectively towards desired outcomes in highly complex and dynamic environment
• Investment sector and/or transaction experience, with a grasp of basic financial concepts, practices, and structures
• Experience with multi-stakeholder relationship management or partnerships management
• Experience with Salesforce, Altvia and other CRM and project management software
• Bachelor’s degree is required; graduate degree preferred

The salary range for this role in the US is $150,000 – $190,000 (USD). The final offer is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set and level of experience.
