Job description

Opal Foods is accepting applications for the position of Utility Maintenance Technician for our Pullet Farm in Roggen, CO. This position is responsible for performing preventive maintenance and repairs on machinery while maintaining compliance with all company policies and governmental regulations including safety, bio-security and animal welfare requirements. This position will work in the pullet houses and must be able to work in a live animal/farm environment. This position will also assist the Pullet Manager with other projects and duties as needed.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Keep equipment operating safely and efficiently by maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment such as electric motors, pneumatic systems, and conveyor systems
  • Perform preventive and urgent maintenance of production machinery and equipment
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments
  • Take a proactive approach to issue resolution including root cause analyses and error proofing controls related to down time
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment to perform duties
  • Use front end loader to move litter
  • Detect faulty operation or defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas

Physical Requirements of a Maintenance Technician:

  • Bio-secure shower in/shower out facility
  • Fast paced work environment
  • Lift fifty or more pounds on a regular basis
  • Bend, lift, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb
  • Work in a general farm environment around live animals; must be able to tolerate a dusty environment

Requirements: (knowledge, experience, skills, education)

  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Previous experience troubleshooting equipment, performing preventive maintenance and repairing industrial processing equipment
  • Front end loader/Forklift certification
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Willing to work off schedule shifts and/or nights when necessary

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in maintenance related roles
  • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish
