Job description

Head of Communications & Marketing – The Harry Ransom Center

The Ransom Center is a leading humanities research library and museum at the University of Texas at Austin, offering extraordinary collections and programs in literature, photography, film, art, and the performing arts.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement internal and external communications, coordinating the Center’s media strategy, promoting news coverage, cultivating media relations, and ensuring alignment with the University’s public affairs strategy.
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies for exhibitions, membership, and programs, manage advertising across print and digital media, and measure effectiveness against clear, measurable goals; oversee the marketing budget.
  • Coordinate editorial, design, production, and publication of the biannual Center Magazine, annual report, and other collateral materials; collaborate with internal departments and external vendors.
  • Oversee institutional branding, ensuring consistent communications and a strong visual identity.
  • Manage the Center’s website with the webmaster, ensuring accurate and timely online content.
  • Assist the Director of Development in strategy to increase membership and philanthropic support for the capital campaign, including marketing collateral development.
  • Serve on the Center’s leadership team and provide regular updates on communications and marketing effectiveness.
  • Manage the Center’s social media presence and monitor public image in collaboration with the Manager of Communications and Marketing.
  • Cultivate community partnerships and sponsorships to enhance the Center’s role within the Austin community, and oversee the constituent database of contacts.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, business, or communications with a demonstrated commitment to the humanities.
  • Five years of experience in public affairs and media coverage.
  • Five years of experience in a marketing or communications role, including campaign development, brand management, email platforms, digital and traditional advertising, web design, video production, staff and budget management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Fluency with digital and social media platforms.
  • Excellent organizational and project‑management skills.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a library, museum, other cultural institution, or nonprofit.

Salary and Working Conditions

Salary: $75,000 plus. Working conditions: standard office environment, repetitive keyboard use, and moving up to 40 lbs.
