Job description

The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a Senior Graphic Designer with the MoMA Retail, Creative team. The role crafts elevated brand materials and omnichannel marketing campaigns that inspire and delight our retail customers, bringing to life the rich stories behind MoMA Design Store and the products we sell, while supporting the Museums’ initiatives, brand and identity.

Responsibilities:                      

  • Develops high-level creative concepts, visual systems, art direction and design for branded marketing campaigns, including seasonal launches, and online + store pop-ups.
  • Leads design projects at all stages of campaign design, from concept development, design, and final production while ensuring the highest quality and brand consistency.
  • Creates compelling, brand-aligned design materials across digital e-commerce (email, web banners, digital ads), print collateral, packaging, store graphics, out-of-home and experiential formats.
  • Develops internal product development concepts, packaging design, licensing brand collaborations and mechanical file production.
  • Designs ambitiously, with a mastery in the design fundamentals: typography, composition, color, hierarchy and balance.
  • Maintains, evolves and enforces brand identity and visual standards across all brand touchpoints. 
  • Stays curious and passionate about design, keeping a pulse on evolving design trends, available tools, technologies, resources and industry best practices.
  • Manages multiple design projects simultaneously, including timelines and approvals to meet deadlines.
  • Works cross-functionally and collaborate with key partners in internal and external teams.
  • Further develops use and implementation of AI tools for creative discovery, concepting and production.
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

    Requirements:          

    • Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design or equivalent experience. 
    • 4-6 plus years of demonstrated experience in graphic design for in-house or agency. 
    • Portfolio demonstrating strong design sensibility, conceptual development, art direction, typography skills and eye for layout. 
    • Diverse experience in print, digital, packaging, branding, campaign design and motion design.
    • A natural storyteller, comfortable digesting complex information and strategic direction to develop visually elevated and engaging designs.
    • Strong understanding of brand systems and ability to provide design solutions with a high level of craft and attention to detail.
    • Knowledge of file preparation for digital & print, color management and production.
    • Excellent communication and collaborative nature, working with different teams and departments to take initiative.
    • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
    • Mastery of creative tools including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Figma, Midjourney/Gemini.
    • Knowledge of After Effects and ability to animate motion graphics.

    Reports to: Associate Creative Director, MoMA Retail

    Salary Range:  Minimum of $72,893 to a maximum of $80,000 per annum
