Description
The Math High School Equivalency Instructor will teach a small group of students seeking to improve their math skills for improved career options or to earn a High School Equivalency Diploma (by passing the GED® tests, for example). Instructor will deliver instruction in intermediate mathematics (problem solving, measurement, algebra) using curriculum provided by the College. Candidates should be comfortable working with students with differing skill levels, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences.
Schedule: Afternoon, two days/week (part-time); approximately six to eight hours per week
Rate: $18 per hour
Primary Duties
• Delivers engaging instructional activities and lessons for adult learners
• Discusses and helps set appropriate goals with each student (academic, employment, community)
• Contacts students regularly to encourage and support them in attending class
• Maintains accurate records and related paperwork to be submitted to the office in a punctual manner
• Sustains positive, professional relationships and communication with students as well as college staff
• Communicates effectively with the administrative team in person, through email, and by telephone
• Participates in staff development sessions, trainings, and other college functions as appropriate
• No outside class duties required
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree required
• Working knowledge of personal computers and related software (email, web browser)
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Considerable discretion in the handling of confidential information and sensitive materials
or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
