Overview
Nestled between the scenic Cascade Mountains and Puget Sound in an increasingly diverse and fast-growing region of the country, Everett Community College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of Mathematics. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Foundations.

In realizing this commitment, we strive to create a culture in which faculty use data and inquiry to reflect on classroom practices and improve learning outcomes for students.
The faculty position will support students as they transition from pre-college or developmental mathematics into college-level coursework. This may involve work with co-requisite models, alternative instructional modalities, and curricular initiatives designed to improve student success, momentum, and completion in mathematics pathways. Additionally, the position will occasionally provide the opportunity to teach a broader range of mathematics courses, which includes upper-division transfer-level offerings, in alignment with departmental needs.
Full-time faculty at Everett Community College also play an integral role in student support beyond the classroom. Through the College's Guided Pathways Advising model, faculty serve as program advisors, working closely with students to support their academic, transfer, and career goals. Faculty also collaborate with colleagues on departmental and campus-wide curricular development, assessment, and initiatives that advance student learning and institutional effectiveness.

Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching
  • Foster an equitable, anti-racist, and culturally inclusive learning environment and demonstrate an awareness of the experiences and needs of the current student population.
  • Develop curriculum, prepare, modify and deliver teaching/learning activities designed to maximize student learning and foster inclusive excellence.
  • Teach courses in accordance with the course record, course syllabus, approved student learning objectives, and quarterly course schedules. Design and/or deliver course assignments, learning activities and assessments that enable students to meet the course's stated learning outcomes.
  • Develop a current course syllabus using the College's inclusive syllabus template and submit it to the Instruction Office prior to the start of the quarter.
  • At the course level, assess student work using appropriate methodologies that promote further learning; at the department or program level; at the program or department level, disaggregate, review and assess student learning outcomes with the goal of continuous improvement and reduction of opportunity gaps.
  • Complete summative evaluations of student work during the College's scheduled finals week; submit final grades by the designated deadline.
  • Create and maintain department and student records in accordance with college policies and procedures.
  • Refer students to college services, community agencies and other professionals as appropriate.
  • Conduct program/transfer advising as detailed below.
  • Establish, post, and maintain regularly scheduled office hours for consultation with students.

Program Advising
  • Full-time faculty will be responsible for advising a caseload of currently enrolled students.
  • Participate at least once annually in professional development to maintain and update advising skills.
  • Participate in quarterly Advising cross-training per quarter as requested by the Dean/Supervisor.
  • Provide Program Advising as assigned for students in all areas in which the faculty member has been cross-trained.
  • Proactively contact all assigned students each contractual quarter.
  • Participate in advisee student support networks.
  • Active use of institutionally sanctioned advising platform(s) as appropriate for scheduling, record-keeping, degree planning, and communicating with advisees with ongoing development, training and support provided by the college.
  • Faculty Program Advisors will support students in developing the following skills:
    • Transfer and career planning.
    • Building, modifying, and adhering to a degree plan.
    • Identifying and adhering to institutional deadlines.
    • Accessing essential resources on campus.
    • Accessing technological resources that will assist them in monitoring their program blocks, graduation and transfer requirements.
    • Identifying and overcoming barriers to academic success.

Continuation of Professional Standards
  • Stay current in relevant best practices, emerging topics, and research, especially those related to the mission, vision, and values of the college.
  • Maintain certification and/or licensure required by the College in the performance of the faculty member's assignment.

Participation in College Priorities
  • Contribute to EvCC's mission, vision and values and to the priorities and objectives articulated in Charting a Path Toward Equity: EvCC Strategic Plan 2022-2027.
  • Attend and participate in:
    • the first two days of annual opening week activities held in the Fall quarter
    • department and division meetings
    • training activities as mandated by state and federal law
    • professional development program mandated by Washington Senate Bill 5227
    • the annual commencement ceremony in June.
  • Serve on committees.

Reassigned Time
  • The leadership of the College has the right to assign faculty duties to faculty members.
  • Faculty may be assigned non-faculty duties including, but not limited to, administrative functions, leadership of college initiatives, or other specially assigned duties.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
  • Master's Degree in Mathematics Education or Mathematics or closely related field
  • Teaching experience in Mathematics

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of college-level mathematics content, including algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and statistics
  • Demonstrated teaching and working knowledge of practices consistent with current methodologies and pedagogies in both pre-college/developmental math education and first year college mathematics
  • Advising, mentoring, and supporting students in navigating mathematics pathways and academic planning
  • Demonstrated participation and contribution to department, division or campus-wide projects and initiatives such as curricular development, placement, assessment, grant initiatives, accreditation, or Guided Pathways
  • Ability to use a Learning Management System (Canvas) to effectively support instruction within all modalities (online, in-person, hybrid)
  • Must be available to teach in-person classes at our Everett Main Campus

Preferred
  • Community college teaching experience in Mathematics
  • Experience implementing and using open or low-cost course materials
  • Developing and using equitable assessment practices to evaluate student learning outcomes at the classroom and departmental level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of using student learning and retention data to inform instructional and curricular improvement
  • Knowledge of Title II accessibility requirements and commitment to providing fully accessible course content
  • Create learning environments that are welcoming, inclusive, and supportive of students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds
  • Demonstrated experience and pedagogical/andragogical strategies for effectively facilitating learning for students from diverse backgrounds, including differences in culture, heritage, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, ability, class, and religion
  • Experience with adapting instruction to meet the needs of students with varied preparation levels and learning styles using research-backed methods that promote equity, engagement, and student success
