Job Description

The Embedded Math Peer supports student learning by working directly within a designated math course. This role involves collaborating with the instructor and providing academic support through active engagement with students both inside and outside of the classroom. The peer serves as a knowledgeable and approachable resource, helping students grasp course concepts, develop problem-solving skills, and build confidence in mathematics.

An Embedded Math Peer is a trained tutor who attends a specific math class regularly and collaborates with the instructor to provide in-class and/or supplemental academic support. Their goal is to reinforce course material, assist students with problem-solving, and promote active learning. By being present in the classroom, the peer becomes a familiar and accessible resource, helping bridge the gap between instruction and student understanding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend the assigned course daily/weekly

  • Review content and plan support services

  • Support students during group work, activities, and class discussions

  • Clarify challenging concepts and encourage collaborative learning

  • Reinforce course material through guided questions and modeling

  • Communicate regularly with the instructor to align support with course goals

  • Refer students to additional academic resources as needed

  • Offer embedded support and support outside of the course

  • Ensure accurate tracking of usage, group and individual sessions, in the CRM Embedded Math Support form

  • Conduct one-on-one mentoring and tutoring sessions outside of class

  • Prepare for and facilitate weekly group study activity sessions

  • Coordinate with course faculty and program staff to improve student outcomes

  • Demonstrate a reliable and positive work ethic

  • Effectively apply/receive feedback and work in a team setting with staff and peers

  • Model successful student habits and campus involvement in student interactions

  • Participate in pre-semester training, ongoing training, and staff meetings

  • Successful completion of the target or higher-level math course with a grade of B or better.
