GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position provides instruction in a structured educational setting for delinquent youth ages 12-21. The teacher develops and implements a curriculum designed to help residents meet Wyoming Content and Performance Standards aligned with the Common Core of knowledge and skills.
The teacher is responsible for assessing student learning, measuring progress, and supporting residents in achieving academic goals. This role also manages classroom behavior and regularly communicates student progress with dormitory staff to support consistent expectations and coordination of care.
In addition to classroom responsibilities, the teacher participates in the overall programming of the Wyoming Girls School as appropriate. Occasional dormitory support duties and transportation of residents may also be required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
- Participates in the planning and development of the curriculum, and the preparation of residents' lessons and instructional materials.
- Manages, teaches, and interacts with residents in a classroom setting.
- Administers assessment tests to residents; measures & assesses results.
- Maintains education files, following departmental regulations.
- Collaborates with other staff regarding residents' needs and/or performance, and attends multidisciplinary meetings for residents.
- Adheres to state, facility, and federal guidelines related to institutional education programs.
- Provides consultation on special needs residents for other educational, program, or security staff.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
The Wyoming Girls School is fully accredited through Cognia Accreditation, and in order for a school to remain accredited, it must adhere to the highly qualified teacher regulations. It is imperative for the Wyoming Girls School to maintain certified teachers on staff; the open position of Certified Teacher is an essential position to fill due to maintaining a safe staff-to-student ratio during operational school hours.
Preference will be given to candidates with Language Arts Certification. Additionally, a secondary focus in Math or Social Studies is a plus.
Applicants must be Wyoming certified or willing to obtain Wyoming certification.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of planning for instruction, motivation, physical, mental, and emotional growth, learning styles, and classroom management.
- Knowledge of curriculum management and development.
- Knowledge of basic computer software and the operation of computers.
- Knowledge of basic regulations and practices associated with civil emergency activities.
- Knowledge of basic instructional and training procedures and practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Education)
Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Teacher's Aide.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Possession of or proof of ability to secure a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Certificate.
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Teacher's Aide.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
