Job Description
The Department of Political Science and Philosophy at Weber State University invites applications for a one-year, full-time Visiting Instructor position in Political Science, beginning Fall 2027 and continuing through the 2027-2028 academic year.
We seek candidates with expertise in Comparative Politics who can contribute to the department's undergraduate curriculum in comparative and global politics. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a combination of introductory and upper-division political science courses.
The anticipated Fall 2027 teaching schedule includes two sections of POLS 1010: Politics, Power, and the State, (our Introduction to Political Science course), POLS 3140: Foreign Policy of the United States, and POLS 3210: Politics in the European Union. The Spring 2028 schedule will include POLS 1010: Politics, Power, and the State and POLS 2200: Global Governments, Politics, and Societies. The remaining spring courses will be determined in part by the successful candidate's areas of expertise and departmental needs. Possible upper-division offerings may include POLS 4200: Dictatorships, POLS 3290: Democratization, Violence, and Political Transitions, POLS 3200: Middle East and North Africa, or a special-topics course in the candidate's area of expertise.
The standard teaching load is four courses per semester.

This is a one-year visiting appointment for the 2027-2028 academic year. The department has applied for authorization to conduct a search for a permanent faculty position in a future hiring cycle. Approval of that position is not guaranteed and, if approved, it would constitute a separate competitive search. The individual appointed to the visiting position would be eligible to apply for any future permanent position for which they meet the qualifications.
