Summary of Responsibilities
Duties:
The Department of Mathematics at Utah Valley University invites qualified individuals to apply for a tenure-track position as an assistant professor of mathematical sciences - actuarial emphasis. Teach 12 credit hours per semester of lower- and upper-division statistics, mathematics, and actuarial exam preparation courses. Teach and develop courses supporting the actuarial science emphasis, including topics in financial and mortality risk modeling. Coordinate the actuarial science program and serve on departmental and university committees. Maintain and update curriculum, and organize campus events for actuarial science students, such as guest speakers and job fairs.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
  • Due to the interdisciplinary nature of actuarial science, graduation from an accredited institution with a terminal degree (Ph. D.) in a field related to actuarial science is required. These may include Actuarial Science Mathematics, Statistics, and other related degrees such as Risk Management and Insurance. The terminal degree should demonstrate substantial coursework in mathematics and statistics.
  • Applicants must demonstrate effective teaching skills using appropriate pedagogical methods; proficiency with courseware, online learning tools, and instructional technologies for face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online formats; ability to publish and/or present scholarly research; ability to assess student learning and performance; and ability to develop curriculum for assigned courses.
