Job description

Primary Function: To safely transport Club members after school from various local schools to the Club. This role interacts with transported Club members in a way that aligns with high-quality programming and trauma competent care best practices, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati’s mission. This role also manages the Club’s transportation log and quarterly and biannual vehicle maintenance.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Safely transport children from local, assigned schools to the Club, ensuring punctuality and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ensure the well-being of all children in the vehicle, supervising them during transit and maintaining a safe, calm environment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date daily logs, documenting important details such as the number of children transported, departure times, and any incidents or issues.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness.
  • Perform quarterly safety checks on the vehicle, ensuring all safety equipment (seat belts, lights, etc.) is functional, and all safety supplies are present and up to date.
  • Schedule and coordinate biannual maintenance appointments to ensure the vehicle is in optimal working condition.
  • Report any mechanical issues, damage, or repairs needed to management immediately.
  • Communicate effectively with program staff, caregivers, and school officials to coordinate pick-up and drop-off schedules.
  • Notify parents in advance of any changes or delays to pick-up times.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Club Director, including program assistance when transportation routes are over.
  • Provide individual guidance and establish relationships with members that are conducive to their growth and development.

Collaboration/Relationships:

  • Maintains close contact with Program Coordinators, Club Director, and other Club staff, volunteers, and parents.
  • Actively participate in professional development training.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

We maintain a 15:1 member to staff ratio. Activities are varied and require active engagement during educational and recreational programming, which may include extended periods of walking and standing. Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift less than 25 lbs. Requires ability to use computers, various standard and specialized software and database systems, keyboard, calculator and typical office machines.

Education/Experience Requirement:

  • Previous experience as a van driver, school bus driver, or in a related transportation role is preferred.
  • Experience working with children or in a childcare environment is a plus.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Good driving record with valid driver’s license.
  • Completion of online driver training and road test.
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility to meet Club’s transportation needs.
  • Ability to work with a team.
  • An understanding of the needs and interests of young people.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively with technology.
  • Ability to interact with young people in a positive way, particularly as it relates to behavior issues.
  • Maintain a positive, friendly and cooperative attitude at the worksite.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Position Details:

  • Part-time employment (Hours range between 2pm-6pm)
