Job Summary
The Clayton State University Department of Film, Communication, and Performing Arts seeks a part-time Instructor of Music with a focus on aural skills. The start date for this position is August 2, 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in aural skills and in other areas of program need (such as applied lessons on an instrument, general education music for the non-major, health and wellness in the performing arts, or courses in music education or music business), while fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment that enables music students to build outstanding aural skills, including audiation, sight-singing, dictation, and error detection, in both canonical and contemporary musical styles.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses in aural skills
- Provide individualized aural skills mentorship to students
- Develop and update course materials to reflect current industry practices and University System of Georgia requirements
- Maintain regular office hours and communicate effectively with students
Required Qualifications
- Graduate degree or a minimum of 40 graduate credit hours in music, music education, music theory, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in aural skills or music theory teaching
- Strong understanding of historic and contemporary aural skills techniques, requirements, and industry standards
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching in music, music theory, or related field
- Ability to teach additional courses in related areas (e.g., applied lessons, music education or music pedagogy, music business or entrepreneurship)
- Experience at the collegiate or professional level
- Active professional career in music performance, music composition, or music scholarship
