Job description

I Position Summary:
Support in daily tasks and long-term projects with emphasis on social media, customer service, marketing, and general office administration.
II. Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
• Collaborates with Assitant Director of Marketing to develop a social media and online content plan for Experience Columbia SC, Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, and Experience Columbia SC Sports. Ensure that content is integrated with each other and updated frequently across social media channels.
• Maintain interaction on social media through daily responses to incoming follower inquiries and comments. Some social media monitoring on nights and weekends will be required. Respond to questions and comments on some travel-related networks that are not owned content by ECSC (TripAdvisor, Yelp, Google Reviews, etc.)
• Craft and implement social media calendar. Write social media posts for reviewbu Assistant Director of Marketing. Coordinate with other staff members based on assignments.
• Train to monitor and organize user-generated content for use on social media and website.
• Manage coordination of photoshoots including securing photographer and models, working with partners for location and props, and on-site coordination when applicable.
• Work with VP of Marketing & Communications and Assistant Director of Marketing on brainstorming video content and coordinating with video vendors for traditional advertising and social media use.
• Photograph places and things for use on social media as needed.
• Assist Assistant Director of Marketing in brainstorming blog content.
• Maintain photo & video library as a resource for staff, partners, clients and media. Fulfill requests for photo access through DAM system.
• Coordinate staff headshots.
• Assist with writing, formatting and posting website content.
• Some planning and coordination of marketing promotions and projects.
• Running errands involved in the coordination of marketing, communications, or office administration as needed.
• Coordinate with local partners on social media opportunities.
• Educate local partners on content opportunities and how to have an established presence online.
• Act as liaison with vendors handling social media reporing, photography and other services
• Filing, copying, printing, emailing, and other office tasks as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

IV. Education/Qualifications Required:
• Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in marketing, communications, business, hospitality management, tourism management, journalism, or a related field.
• Internship, freelance or coursework in Marketing required.
• Superior writing/editing, communications, computer, and problem-solving skills are required.
• Knowledge of social media networks, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel, Canva and PowerPoint programs preferred.
• Strong photography skills are preferred.
• Must be an efficient and resourceful self-starter.
• Knowledge of the Columbia area is essential.
• Must be able to interact with the public at all levels, clearly communicate, be able to organize, prioritize, follow directions, and complete assigned tasks in a fast-paced environment with a keen attention to detail.
• Must be able to work outside of regular office hours on a scheduled basis. Must be able to work occasional weekends on a scheduled basis.

  • Directing and managing the activities and mission of the Columbia Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau.
  • Overseeing the development and operation of the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center under a long-term management agreement for the benefit of the Governmental Entities: City of Columbia, Lexington County and Richland County.
  • Directing and managing the activities and mission of the Columbia Regional Sports Council (also known as Experience Columbia SC Sports).
  • Directing and managing the operation of the Columbia Regional Visitors Center.

On August 24, 2001, the Authority became the Supervising Member for the Columbia Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau (also known as Experience Columbia SC) and on May 14, 2002, the Columbia Regional Sports Council became a partner in the regional marketing efforts.
The Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports & Tourism Board consists of nine members; five representing the City of Columbia, two representing Lexington County and two representing Richland County.
The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports & Tourism will oversee the operation and management of all responsibilities delegated to the Authority by the Board. The current President & CEO is Bill Ellen.
