Job description

GED Prep Course Instructor

The GED Prep Course Instructor has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, preparing students for the General Education Development (GED) test, which is equivalent to a high school diploma. The GED Prep Instructor provides instruction in various subjects including mathematics, science, social studies, and language arts. This position is essential for helping students who have not completed high school to achieve their educational and career goals. This is a part-time position in Livingston, Texas, at the Texas State University System Polk County Center.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver lessons on various subjects that are included in the GED test.
  • Monitor students' progress and provide constructive feedback, ensuring students are progressing appropriately through the curriculum.
  • Assist students with developing strong study habits, test-taking strategies, and time management skills.
  • Review and grade assignments, as appropriate, providing feedback to students to enhance their learning.
  • Proctor GED practice tests to understand student progress towards goals, as well as implement study groups, as needed.
  • Stay updated on changes to the GED test and adjust lesson plans accordingly.
  • Keep accurate records of students' attendance, progress, and grades.
  • Comply with campus policies and procedures
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Five (5) years of teaching experience, K-12 or higher
  • Work independently in the classroom
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Possess time management and communication skills
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluent in English and Spanish

Supplemental Information

Work Hours: 19.50 hours per week Physical Requirements: Duties may include standing, walking, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting or moving of equipment or materials up to 25 pounds. Visual and auditory acuity are required to ensure effective instruction and safe supervision of students in classroom and/or laboratory settings.
