Machine Operator (Grinder): Freeport, Illinois
Our customer in Freeport, Illinois is seeking motivated individuals to join their team. We’re recruiting a Machine Operator (Grinder) to work full-time on 2nd shift (3:00pm–11:00pm). As a Machine Operator, you will be responsible for precision grinding operations to produce high-quality components that meet exact specifications.
 
Responsibilities of the Machine Operator (Grinder):
  • Set up and operate industrial grinding machines, including CNC equipment.
  • Shape, smooth, and polish materials to exact design specifications.
  • Mount abrasive grinding wheels and select appropriate tooling.
  • Set machine speeds, feed rates, and adjust holding fixtures based on job requirements.
  • Monitor grinding operations to ensure tight tolerances are maintained.
  • Interpret machine behavior and make real-time adjustments as needed.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure safe, efficient operation.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to machine performance and product quality.
 
Machine Operator (Grinder) Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of material behavior, wheel selection, speeds, and feeds.
  • Knowledge of thermal effects and their impact on finished products.
  • Ability to identify and correct issues such as taper, chatter, or burn.
  • Acute attention to detail and strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to interpret subtle process indicators such as sound, vibration, and part appearance.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with CNC or similar complex machinery preferred.
  • Ability to maintain consistent quality and production standards.
 
Pay for Machine Operator (Grinder): Starting at $23/hour.
