Description DEFINITION: Implement, manage, and collaborate with other library staff to provide a wide range of customary library services. Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL AND RELATED FUNCTION STATEMENTS:Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Initiate, implement, and oversee services to the public in coordination with other library staff. Interact with library patrons helping them access a wide range of library programs, resources, and services to meet their educational, informational, and recreational needs.

Manage daily check-in of library materials providing training and support to library staff as needed. Oversee overdue notification program and resolve issues using the library automation software. Assist with annual inventory of library materials in collaboration with library staff.

Manage book reserve system. Use computers and library automation software to enroll patrons in online book reserve system and provide necessary instruction in the use of the online catalog to patrons. Work scheduled hours at the circulation desk providing a variety of customary library services.

Check library materials in and out. Wait on patrons, answer questions, find books or materials requested, obtain information for patrons or refer to appropriate staff. Levy fines, take money, and prepare appropriate receipts.

Assist patrons in the use of online card catalog, computers, printers, and other equipment. Process applications for library cards, create patron records, and maintain accuracy and confidentiality of patron records in automation system. Shelve and shelf read in assigned section daily, applying collection development/maintenance standards.

Provide appropriate library services over the telephone or refer to appropriate staff. Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties including stock copy/printer paper or forms; file; maintain statistics; display flags. Assist with library tours, programming, and with setting up the Gold Auditorium.

Secure the library building, and assist with maintenance of building and grounds to assure a neat and organized appearance of the library. Perform any necessary daily function when primary person is absent. Perform additional duties as apparent and/or as assigned.

Typical Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities which would typically be acquired through: Associate's degree with three years' customer service experience. Bilingual preferred. Ability to work a minimum of one night per week and one Saturday per month.

Must have public service attitude with ability to effectively communicate with patrons and other staff. Excellent public relations skills. Ability to work closely with others in a team environment.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software applications and general office equipment. Must be able to rapidly learn and perform tasks, manage multiple ongoing tasks, and effectively use complicated library software. Minimum typing speed of 35 WPM.

Must pass a medical examination and drug screening as authorized by law and have a valid Texas Class C driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Supplemental Information PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks are performed in a sedentary position at workstation with occasional walking required. Requires extensive use of computer, printer and other office and telecommunications equipment.

The employee must exert light physical effort, occasionally involving lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects and materials (mostly file boxes) of up to thirty-five pounds. Requires visual perception and ability to communicate orally. Job must be performed with or without accommodations.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work performed is primarily in a climate controlled office environment, in both seated and standing positions. Visual acuity is necessary to read and review documents and for performing work for long periods of time at a computer workstation. Manual dexterity is necessary for typing, writing, and driving.

Mental acuity is necessary to read, interpret, and apply various policies and principles. Walking is required on smooth terrain at Library and other facilities. NORMAL PROMOTION PATHFROM THIS CLASS:Any position that the individual is eligible and qualified for.
