Job description

The Environmental Conservation and Horticulture Department at Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC; Canandaigua, NY) is seeking an experienced professional or educator to join our adjunct teaching faculty for the fall 2027 academic term. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching HRT 135 � Regulation of Cannabis Cultivation. This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the legal framework governing Cannabis production � plants and derived products � in New York State, including compliance requirements, best management practices, and the historical context of federal Cannabis regulation. The ideal candidate will possess both practical experience in the Cannabis industry and strong teaching abilities to effectively guide students through the evolving regulatory landscape in NYS.

This position is part of an ongoing recruitment process. Qualified candidates will be contacted by the hiring manager as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Deliver instruction on laws regulating Cannabis cultivation at both state and federal levels.
  2. Teach best management practices for legal compliance in Cannabis operations from seed to product.
  3. Create assignments and assessments that evaluate students' comprehension of Cannabis laws and regulations.
  4. Guide discussions on the historical context of Cannabis regulation and recent developments in rescheduling.
  5. Maintain current knowledge of evolving Cannabis reporting and industry standards.
  6. Collaborate with department faculty to ensure curriculum alignment with industry needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Present or former compliance auditor/officer for the NYS Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) or a compliance auditor/officer for a NYS-licensed cannabis cultivator, processor, and/or dispensary, and hence, possess the practical and professional experiences to secure appropriate licensing (e.g., CAURD, cultivation, microbusiness, or retail) and ensure strict adherence to OCM best-practices and rules.
  2. Operational experience managing compliance workflows required across cultivation, processing, testing, distribution, and dispensary operations.
  3. Hands-on and professional experience crafting and implementing best management practices (BMPs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for processing, extraction, and seed-to-sale tracking.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. JD or MBA with two or more years of experience with Cannabis law and regulations, equivalency give to a chief financial offer (CFO) of a Cannabis -related business.
